Mk1 Retrimming in Yorkshire
by dontbeefkeith » Mon Feb 01, 2010 1:00 pm
Hi,
This is my first post on this forum so I have to thank everyone on here for making a great forum packed with info. Also I got my insurance dirt cheap through CK because of you guys so many thanks for that, I'm going to pay the subscription and upgrade my account asap!
I bought my super red 1986 - D reg. T-Bar on Saturday. It's mechanically sound and has had a full respray so it looks and goes great. Unfortunately the interior is showing it's 24 years of service to it's previous owners and is in need of tlc.
It's the Red & Black cloth interior and I love it but the seat bolsters/lumbar supports are saggy and the red has faded in the sun and the carpet is worn. The dash, centre console and door vinyls are also cracking/showing wear and the car smells like it really has suffered 24 years of dead skin cells, fags, sweating, eating kfc etc...
Basically I want to put it back to new and look all original so I'm after a car retrimmers/restorers in the yorkshire area who could undertake this work and provide good value for money. If anyone has any recommendations I'd love to hear them.
All the best
DBK

Welcome to the club matey!
Hi DBK,
it's a difficult one as i don't know anyone in your area BUT your best bet is to give LSC Interiors a call (nismo-neo on here) they recently did my mk2 seats and they're mint! I am not sure if he does mk1's but most certainly worth asking.

Ahhh Damn!
Missed the Yorkshire meet, my emails been off a while and completely forgot to check back. Thanks for the advice on the retrimmers everyone, I'm waiting for the end of the month to accumulate funds and then I'm going to jump into the interior resto.
I've actually bought a pair of red and black seats from a guy on ebay that look to be in better nick and am going to have them steam cleaned rather than re-covering my seats. Also from the same guy I got a steering wheel and door trims with the buttons.
The carpet on my mk1 mings, so I'm looking to replace it. The only problem I've got is to decide if it's cheaper to buy a new carpet direct from Toyota (£198+vat according to the dealer near me) or get a company to re-trim the carpet (not sure how expensive that would be). There may be a third option though, I've seen a few companies in the state that make carpets molded to the same shape as the factory fit ones...
Here's the link http://www.auto-interior.com/toyota6.htm#MR2. I'm going to call them on my trusty skype fone to see if they can do a RHD one. If they do I'll talk money and see if it's cheaper to do that than just get the original carpet from Toyota.
There's quite a few places like this in the US and Australia that do this but so far google has let me down in finding anywhere in the UK. If anyone is interested, knows anything about this or wants to get involved let me know!

Got the part numbers for the carpet on my '86 D reg for the carpet. Turns out the carpet is in 2 pieces - Left (58520-17010-01) and Right (58510-17090-01), both discontinued. Spoke to my local toyota dealer and they said that not all aw11 carpets are discontinued tho?

Ah bugger it, I've just looked at the carpet in greater detail and it'll clean up with a steam cleaner! God I'm tight, lol. I'm type casting us yorkshiremen here...
BTW got an email back from company in the states and they say they'll ship a carpet without heel pad attached for $98. For anyone who's interested.
