Mounting a 3sgte on to a stand

Post by notroubleclubber » 13/09/17 19:37

Just got my gearbox off. Ive removed clutch cover and clutch.

Do i need to remove the flywheel to mount the engine on my stand?

Also does anyone know what size bolts it is to mount it on to the stand as the standard bolts are too short and even though i have some longer bolts they dont seem to fit even though they look the same and i dont want to strip the threads trying.
Cheers

You will need to remove the flywheel.

I think either the bolts that go through the engine mounts or the ones that hold the cross member on will work to fix it to the stand.

They need to be metric fine bolts.

Think mine is on the stand with gearbox bolts. One of the lower fixings has a large threaded bar though it and some nuts on that as didn't have enough long bolts.
Has been holding the engine for more than a year now without issuse.

Some stands do allow the flywheel to stay on, mine doesn't as it fouls the nuts holding the mount arms.

I'm using the subframe bolts on mine as I had some spare. And yeah, flywheel needs to come off.

You need to remove the flywheel to replace the crank seal and housing gasket on that side, and you'd be mad not to replace that while you've got it out.
