Subframe Captive Nut

Post by Craig-rev3 » 14/11/17 13:56

Having an issue with the captive nut on my subframe.

Instead of going through the hastle of removing a Rev 1 subframe and replacing it with a Rev 2+, I bought a pair of upgraded rear toe arms from Hux Racing in the US. The idea being a simple 5 minute upgrade....

One arm is fitted, the other is hasn't come off yet. The captive nut has become loose and now just spins. I've drilled a small hole underneath and tried all sorts to try and get it off but no chance! The nut is square which doesn't help either.

Any advice on trying to remove this nut? I really don't want to change the subframe since the arms were quite expensive and I really want them fitted!

I had a similar problem and managed to slide the stick welder in and weld the captive nut back on. If all else fails i have a spare very clean rev1 subframe.

Here's a pic of the offending nut. I don't have a welder so welding it back on isn't an option for me.

It'll be easier to source a replacement subframe.

With the possibility I'm thread snatching can I ask a related question?

What is the length of the shorter chassis bolt used to secure rear sub-frame? Reason I ask is a mate of mine is installing a 4wd bulbar and we need a longer high tensile bolt to use. The existing one is only 100mm and is approx. 20mm short. From memory the MR2 bolt looks like the same diameter & thread pitch but can't recall length.
