Re: looking to buy a MK2 MR2, any advice?

Did you have a good poke around with a screwdriver as it looks like you may have a 'project' on your hands? My advice is to make sure you have a good look before parting with any cash. Did you check its MOT History online?? I just did and rust is going to be your main concern - it failed spectacular...

Re: What to replace while engine out of car

As above but how much you do depends on how much you want to spend. As getting the engine out is a pain and some of these jobs are difficult with it in the car I'd err on the side of caution and just to as much as you can. My list: Cam and crank seals - all will be crusty by now. Distributor o-ring ...

Re: IS200 ABS sensors

Apparently the early ones used the same technology so should be electrically compatible but you may need to extend the length of the wire in a 2... They're only £16 or so on ebay so probably worth a punt at that price. New Mr2 ones are eyewateringly expensive!

Re: Water ingress?

...as above but also chack that the pipe from the roof drain is actually in the hole in the top of the drainage pot at the back of the quarterlight - when I got my car one of the pipes was out and I had to weld the floor behind the seat because the water had been pooling there! If the window trim ha...

Re: Coloured strips down side of of car removal

The manual says that the door strips are PVC and are bonded on in the factory. You may be able to re-use them if you remove them but again the manual says you need to buy new ones if they are removed (if you can stil get them??) as they will be deformed. To take them off you need a thin sharp blade ...

Re: Mr2 restoration

I'd second rusty's advice... I've just (nearly) finished a restore of a 'Spares or Repair" Rev3 and its taken more welding and new parts (and money) than I expected to sort it out to anything like a good spec. I think I was lucky in that my car 'only' needed 2 new outer sills and both rear inner whe...

Re: Rear screen surround gasket?

Your car would have originally been fitted with 75959-17040-J0 in blue but you can only get black nowadays so just fit the one you have!

Re: Thermostat?

Grr - I hate my car!! - now the thermostat is working properly and the system comes up to working temperature (and I guess pressure) I find I have a puddle of coolant under the driver's carpet! I guess the increased pressure has blown the heater matrix so is this REALLY a dash-out job to replace or ...

Re: Getting to the piston rings?!

Hi Alf, I have just rebuilt my 1994 NA and although I'm no expert, I would seriously consider dropping the engine/gearbox out unless you have a pit or a lift. I took mine out for the first time on the drive using a couple of jacks and axle-stands in about 4 hours so the job is not as bad as some mak...

Re: Thermostat?

Well, all good now - fitted OE thermostat and refilled with new coolant and the gauge now hovers just below mid-way no matter what I do with the car so thanks for the feedback.

Re: Thermostat?

Thanks for the feedback ...thinking about it I guess the rear would make more sense but as the air mostly seems to accumulate in the horizontal pipes I guess either end would be better than level just to give some gradient for the air to move along. I'll let you guys know the outcome once I've repla...

Thanks,

That's what I suspected since the solid roof adds a load of strength to the shell...
