Track rod end rose joint conversion
Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a MK2 turbo race car and have been looking into the cause of a steering wheel judder I’ve got.
The track rod ends have been converted to rose joints but a standard parallel bolt has been used, which can’t be right as the hole in the steering arm is tapered. This surely allows play given the loads applied.
What has anyone else done to overcome this?
I see a couple of options:
1. Drill the taper out to make it parallel, and then use the appropriate size bolt.
2. Make a tapered ‘top hat’ for the wide part of the taper.
3. Buy a proper kit which has a taper bolt adapter.
The coupe I have seen are expensive.
Look forward to hearing what everyone else has done
Cheers

Maybe the steering arm hole has already been redrilled parallel ? have you checked it ?
You missed one other option, go back to standard track rod ends. Personally I think of what advantage rose joints have over track rod ends ?

I’ve re checked and the hole is definitely still tapered.
The reason to use rose joints is so you can change the height it attaches to the steering arm to remove bump steer, especially when the car has been lowered.
Going to drill out the taper and use a hardened steel sleeve
Thanks

Re: Track rod end rose joint conversion
I thought the usual way of dealing with geo misalignment due lowering was to fit RCA's ?

The RCAs arealready fitted, but they don’t always remove all the bump steer
