Knowledge Base - Info:- Active or passive audio system?

The factory fitted Toyota car audio system was supplied with either an active or passive sound system.

Passive systems use an amplifier that is built into the headunits chassis. The active system uses external amplifiers that are hidden behind the trim on the passenger side of the car.

When upgrading your head unit it's important to purchase the correct wiring adaptor to ensure correct operation of your new headunit. The quickest way of identifying an active system is to check for 1 or 2 subwoofers behind the seats.
