INFO thread regarding the WEEK long trip
Dates 8am 5th August 2009 to 10th August 2009 10pm
interest shown in attending
- mr2big - (organiser) Xing & All Hotels Booked
- d-peg - (co-organiser) Xing & All Hotels Booked
- Badgerbob - Xing All Hotels Booked
- BlackIce2 - Xing & All Hotels Booked
I hope i am not speaking out of turn here but there will be limited overnight stay facilities (a bed if you're lucky) in both Sandwich and Folkestone the evenings before and after the trips.
Just a "taster" of what's possibly on the cards - all details yet to be finalised
Davos - Stelvio Pass
Route Napoleon
Mercantour National Park
Needs no introduction
So a possible route;
Day 1 - Long Haul to Davos Area (~600m 10hrs driving) 5th
Day 2 - Davos, Stelvio, Monza, Turin, Mercantour National Park 6th
Day 3 - Short Day MNP, Monaco (MonteCarlo), Nice, Grasse (big perfume production area) 7th
Day 4 - Grasse to Lyon the scenic route 8th
Day 5 - Lyon to Paris 9th
Day 6 - Paris to home 10th
Total approx 2000 miles.
Projected rough costs
We will take about £300 in funny money.
Allow for £300-500 on card (to include tolls)
Allow 12 tanks of fuel (£600 max)
Allow for 6 nights between £50-75 (£450 max)
Allow around £75 for the crossing
Do's and Dont's
1. European Breakdown cover.
An absolute must people. We will be covering some 2000 miles of demanding roads. should the worst happen and you break down you must be able to get you and your car home. I hope this doesn't happen of course and we return with the same numbe of cars we leave with. Just doing a quick check on the AA will be about £70 for the 6 day trip and peace of mind. I am sure there are cheaper alternatives out there and please post up what you find as the best deals.
2. Sat Nav
Non essential as we will be in convoy of small groups. BUT, if you have it bring it. Beforehand we will sort out all the waypoints, POI's and meeting points for you to use should you become detached from your group.
3. Mobile Phone (and charger)
Imperative you have this with you. Again getting lost in the UK is one thing but in Europe with no outside contact is another.
4. Euro Car Travel Kit
This must include;
- spare bulbs,
- warning triangle
- hi-viz for each occupant (must be kept in the cabin)
- beam deflectors
- GB Sticker
- Documents
- - Full driving license (both parts)
- - MOT
- - Insurance Certificate
5. Driving
This will be a mix of spirited and sedate pace. It is important that you drive to your own ability and not everyone elses. Depending on numbers we will split into groups rather than one large convoy looking to be pulled.
6. Servicing
To minimise the chance of needing point 1 please service your car before departing! Importantly your brakes! There will be some tough mountain sections (Route Napoleon and Stelvio for starters). The last thing anyone wants is the inability to stop at a mountain hairpin!
This information will be updated regularly please check in frequently!

Re: France Week Trip 2010
hmmmm, good point Alan. I will confirm with the others but i would imagine wanting to put a bit of distance between the weekender and this one. I would guess the last week in July to early August perhaps. As to not clash with JAE (which i hope to attend this year even if for one night only).BlackIce2 wrote:Dan when do you think we will be looking at doing this .
Re: France Week Trip 2010
Put me down as a very slim possible Dan.
Completely depends on how well I can treat the missus between now and then.....lol

Re: France Week Trip 2010
I think France is long overdue some MK3 action...!
They'll take the internet off us if people keep doing this.

Re: France Week Trip 2010
Excrement stuff chaps!
I've updated p1.
Michael is in Barbados this week ( alright for some ) so will hang on till he gets back and have a chat with him and the others to see what the plan is.
Just for putting some sort of guide price together (not that the route has been fixed in any way) i have been onto a few hotels in the local areas of the possible stops. I don't want anyone going into this blindly and not knowing full cost. Davos aint that expensive!
