The Scots have this bling fest. Only a one day show though. TG would love it.

Japshow replacement would be the Silverstone Classic, one more could fill the calendar. Timing is everything though.

I am thinking a modified show of some sort?
Kill two birds with one stone and preserve the Wellingborough mash up - USC?

Just to put it out there.
This is a southern show and not just cars

Wings and wheels
Just outside Guildford.

It's completely different from most shows as it has air displays military displays. Stalls. Food and loads of parking and tent space. This is a very family orientated show.

Sorry - what I should have said was "a limited number" of events. My point was we won't be successful in doing BHP and JapFest and Silverstone classic and Trax and USC and JTS and JapFest2 and JAE and... and...

I think the most shows I've ever made it to in a year was 5... 2009 for me was JapFest, JapShow, JTS (WRA2), JAE, JapShow Finale. You know, it would be nice to go to a show that doesn't start in a J! :laughing
d-peg wrote:For Santa Pod I would now probably favour a RWYB day format then back to Northampton/Wellingborough for some drinking fun and a hotel.:
This would be good... in fact, doesn't even have to be a RWYB, but that format before or after a one-day show/event sounds good. I dislike camping at the best of times; JapShow involving camping means no showers and thus feeling both tired and dirty all day, plus all the hassle of pitching and packing up a tent just for one night (and then having all that extra weight for the strip too).

maybe something to think about for the Silverstone track day in October?

So, are we agreed then? Next year we don't do Japshow and swap it for Silverstone Classic (I'll speak to Julie) and someone else takes on another show, say USC at the pod or BHP at Rockingham?

Regional guys can also try and get spots on the local charity shows to bring awareness of the club and network

Could well be a possible for a local based day bud :th:

Much like the Silverstone Tasters I am doing, it's a smaller thing that can be scoped by the locals and developed into a good meet for people. I have also heard it's a good venue :th:

I can orgainise a weekend social at Shakespeare county drag strip, and then beers and food in the evening...
...there's plenty of hotels dotted around Stratford and the surrounding areas (after all, it is tourists heaven - and locals hell  )

I agree - ditch Japshow. As you said earlier mate, timing is everything. USC and Silverstone Classic are only two weeks apart. Imo it has to be one or the other. The latter event is massive: over 90,000 attendees this year compared with 120,000 for the F1 GP. If circuit racing is your thing then go for it.

The issue I have though is cost. £42 for a 3 day pass is manageable but, as I don't do camping, the cost of accommodation anywhere close to the circuit is prohibitive. I've checked and it will be between £70 and £100 per night! Far too much for my wallet. I would rather spend my money on attending more but less extravagant events.

I think the more pertinent question for most people though is will there be sufficient interest/uptake for two full 3 day shows in 7 weeks (assuming the dates of both remain the same)?

We've got loads of time before next year's show season, so rather than making a quick decision now, let's make a chronological list of potentials together with dates and main attractions to get a good picture of all the options. Eg:

JapFest: early May - 1 day - trade, track time
JapShow: late June - 2 days - camping, drag strip
JAE: early Sept - 4 days - camping, IKO
JapFest Finale: late Sept - 2 days - camping, drag strip

OK, lets put together a calender of NATIONAL events - obviously local/charity events are a small ticket item that can be slotted in as and when.

May

Japfest (Castle Coombe) - Middle of May - 1 day event - c.£20 per ticket (Pro - Track time, good trade stands, drifting displays Cons - Long distance for single day event, previous issues with event management)

June

Classic Car Spectacular & Autojumble (Tatton Park) - First Weekend in June - 2 day event - £7.50 per day (Unknown event)

Japshow (Santa Pod) - End Of June - 2 day event - £20 per ticket (Pro - Drag Strip, Drunken Dodgems Con - Dwindling numbers, poor facilities, questionable weather, dwindling attractions)

July

Japfest2 (Donnington Park) - First Sunday in July - 1 day event - c.£20 per ticket (unknown show)

Silverstone Classic (Silverstone) - 24th - 27th July 2014 - 3 day event - Awaiting info on pricing/accommodation (unknown event)

August

USC (Santa Pod) - First weekend in August - 3 day event - £70 per ticket (Pro - Drag Strip, All cars catered for Con - High ticket price, poor camping facilities)

BHP2 (Rockingham Raceway) - Bank Holiday weekend - 1 day event - Ticket price unknown (Unknown event)

September

Trax (Silverstone) - First Sunday in September - 1 day event - c.£20 per ticket - (Unknown Event)

JAE (Wicksteed Park) - 2nd Weekend in September - 4 day event - £30 per ticket - (Pros - Great social event, MR2OC biggest show of the year Cons - None)

Japshow Finale (Santa Pod) - Last weekend in September - 2 day event - £20 per ticket (Pro - Drag Strip, Drunken Dodgems Con - Dwindling numbers, poor facilities, questionable weather)

OK, so this is a start on the national scene - if people have experiences of any of the shows, please can you fill in the blanks :th:

Likewise, if I have missed any of the big national shows, fill them in. We want to have as full a list as possible :th:

Jay, according to this the entrance fee to Silverstone Classic next year will be £42. Unless there is camping on-site (is there?) off-circuit accommodation is horrendously expensive, and anything remotely close is already fully booked. The nearest at a sensible price is 6 miles away in Buckingham and as of today has only 1 room left. This event is as bad as the British Grand Prix in that respect.

USC weekend advance tickets were £60 not £70 this year. It has a lot more on offer than just the drag strip. I suspect one reason for the high price is the music including live acts on the Saturday.
