If you haven't thought about liability insurance (and if its not included in any home cover you have) it may be worth signing up to British Cycling membership.

A very small annual charge (£35/year) but gives you some cover as well as discounts on purchases at certain outlets.

https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/membership

There are then discounts if you want to get separate bike cover (might be worth it if you have expensive bikes)

I've got cover through Wiggle on my bikes covering theft, accidental damage and public liability.....

Only costs me £4.99 a month on my sub £500 bikes :th:

Hey, bit late to this topic but one that is close to my heart.

Lost my Mum on Christmas day last year and would love to do something like this to help the people that support the family and victims.

My current level of fitness is almost as unfit as I've ever been in my entire life. Been doing intensive walking sessions recently to combat the lethargy brought about by the sad thoughts that swirl in one's head after losing their mum.

In my teens and early 20's I was a pro' cyclist so know what is needed to get fit and how to train. Currently I'd be surprised if i could ride 10 miles let alone 90 a day.
Given some past injuries a road bike has a too extreme riding position for my body, would need to adapt the headset and bars for a more sit up position, easily done.
I have some 'interesting' medical issues but these are just going to serve as motivation to beat the perceived limitations they present.

Count me in, this is just the motivation I need to push myself back to fitness and raise money for a worthy cause at the same time. It's going to be a painful first couple of months but riding to work will help and we have more than enough time to train for this modest distance.

Where do I sign? :th:

Perfect chap :th:

I'll get your name on the list.

So sorry to hear your loss though bud, so many of us have been touched this way. Part of my incentive for this was as a thank you after they were so great for my family.

If you honestly think you can bring yourself up to the right level, then you're more than welcome to join us in this. On the flip side, if you find it too much, don't feel you're letting the side down if you do have to pull out. I don't want you to feel pressured butI take my hat off to you :th:

Get yourself signed up to Strava to join the training "club" Tom has set up to motivate everyone :th:

There is no illusion, 3 years ago I was able to ride about 20km of gentile uphill, off road at an altitude of 1400-2000m, this was a low in my life. The 2 years of a desk job since then has ruined any level I ever had. But the bottom of performance is behind me now and motivation is climbing with every daily effort.

It is going to hurt more than ever before but pushing the body is well within my mindset, more so for a good cause.
Not getting up to standard is out of the question. The distance is possible, no doubt. Speed might be a factor but who cares if I roll up an hour later than the pack? The point is to finish to raise the money for people who are suffering more than riding a bike.

My Mum worked as a head charity fundraiser for many charities, including Sight Savers for 8 years. She was very scared of heights and abseiled a cathedral for charity at the age of 58!

Spoke to my brother who has an old mountain bike I can use for training, with road tyres already fitted.
BRING IT ON! :th:

That's it, the bike is finally fully upgraded :yh:

Really pleased with how it's turned out and how it now rides. Going to take it out tomorrow for a good ride armed with allen keys etc so I can fine tune the setup :th:

That's 85 miles on the bike this week.....

Biggest improvement however was increasing my average speed to over 15mph over a 20 mile ride today....

Making progress slowly :th:

Quiter week all round with prior plans meaning a slower week for most of us...

James Curtis managed to up the ante from the previous week, bringing his weekly total up by around 10 miles but the stand out star of the week is Dom Bailey. He has now started his training properly and got a good 27 mile hike down on the decks. Shorter week this week with the bank holiday so we'll see how we do.

We have our final car show of the year next week so after that we can start to knuckle down
