stevenb wrote:I bet this is where my car is leaking...I can't find a coolant leak at all but the level is going down regularly......unless it's the pipes right in the middle of the car...hmmm will have to check though.

Cheers for the heads up there.
if not, try the drain tap ar the top n/s of the rad. pull up the plastic cover where you frunk is. ive noticed mine is leaking a touch from this. think it could be a rubber that needs to be replaced.

In the same boat now, after doing some handbrake work I notice the fuel tanks was wet, looked up and the joints are leaking, there’s no way I have the time to start dropping fuel tanks etc etc, the 2 is always "censored" to start when you start messing with the fuel lines, so I’m going to use the bypass method

Got a quote today from a local garage to replace the pipes.... ready?

£500 labour and £300 parts :eeek: yea right, but after reading the guide on here gonna have a crack at it myself, I can get the pipes and all the connectors.

Do I need to drain the coolant before or will I just get a few drops when I cut off the old pipes?

I got same problem. Luckyly car is otherwise and i do first service (i bought car couple months ago) and car was in garage allready.

I trow old pipes away and install rubber pipe original location and soften pipe couple soft rubber bits. This works allright, if this system start leak i change pipe line under the fuel tank, same way what pics. are this treah. I am sorry my poor english language skill.

Here photo before and after (without softer rubbers).

- Before (lot of leaking)

- After

how far do you have to jack the car off the ground to re-route the pipes next to the rad pipes? I'm thinking I may be struggling to do this on my drive, I only have a trolley jack and 2 2tonne axle stands.

I used ramps for the front end and the rear was raised onto axle stands. That gave more than enough space.

Started it yesterday and finishing it off today, never want to do this again! lol got all the undertrays off, snapped a few bolts that were rusted, cut off old pipes and diconnecting the rubber pipes off the copper ones was a bit of a struggle.

Hi Chris, I would do the full bypass, it's a bit of work that gives you piece of mind, you could replace the 6" section but the seal might not be as good as the pipe connectors that have been put in, no need to take the tank out ether.
Hope this helps mate.
Cheers

take off the undertrays and the new pipes go alongside of the rad pipes.
