Re: MR2 INSURANCE SCHEME WITH CHRIS KNOTT INSURANCE
I am currently with elephant.co.uk insurance which is due for renewal and I rang Chris Nott Insurance this morning (18/6/10) for a quote.
They are not as competative as you may think and as I had hoped ! I made a saving of £2.50 LOL !
There was no opportunity to increase my excess, no advantages to doing limited miles (I do 5K per year) and despite having full no claims bonus with only one no-fault claim in 34 years of driving I was unable to significantly reduce my premium.
There was no advantage to being a member of MR2OC here despite quoting '744' as advised on previous posts.
The only positive was that Chris Knott Insurance offer a 9.95% APR if you spread your payments over 10 months after the initial deposit.
My advice ~ shop around !

Re: MR2 INSURANCE SCHEME WITH CHRIS KNOTT INSURANCE
didnt have the best experience
i got good quotes from chris knott was insured for 1-2 years, but when i crashed, took ages to sort and after 1 month of waiting i was offered the following
offer 1 - £400 - 2 weeks past
offer 2 - £2500 - cheque came though, put in bank then 2 weeks later
offer 3 - £3500 - waited a few days then called to ask about a further cheque, then was told this had been sent out by mistake, i was gutted
was not told it was a right off until atleast the second offer
was fully comp with protected no claims, all mods declared,
in the whole time waiting i was not eligible for a courtesy car, never understood why, thought this was standard practice. - turns out if your car is a right off then you can not get 1 (bear in mind this was well before they declared it a right off).
am sticking to the bigger companies now for peace of mind

Re: MR2 INSURANCE SCHEME WITH CHRIS KNOTT INSURANCE
They wouldn't quote me on a Mk3 as I don't have a years driving experience with the MR2. I do hover have 13 years no claims and am aged 31, I've owned lots of different cars and nearly all more powerful than this as well as being rear wheel drive. I also ride and own a sportsbike 30,000 miles a year in all weather! I'd have thought I was a fairly good customer!
The guy on the phone told me it's a new rule that they won't insure you in your first year of ownership as your risk is higher.

Re: MR2 INSURANCE SCHEME WITH CHRIS KNOTT INSURANCE
Hello Chris Knott insurance! Heres my details, 28yrs old, aeronautical engineer owning a standard MR2 2L GT '98. Have owned a license for 10yrs and have 9yrs no claims with no convictions. Previous to this, i have owned an Impreza WRX, Sierra Cosworth, Celica GT4 to name a few. My insurance company that i am with have offered me a quote of 650 (told them where to go). Aviva have offered me 414 due to their two months free thingy that they're doing. Reckon you can beat that?
P.s. I don't want a stupidly massive excess.
Cheers,
Scruff

Thanks for the message.
Regarding the quote, could I ask you to either use the email quote facility found on this forum or ring the office please on 0800 917 2274 or 01424 200477 if calling from a mobile – Mon-Fri 9am till 5pm, Sat 9am till noon.
It’s just that I don’t actually do the quotes, as I spend a lot of my time travelling the country on business and work from home also.
We have a specialist team who should be able to help you based on the details you’ve stated.
Also, please don't forget the car breakdown cover at £54.50 for full UK cover – please see http://www.ckinsurance.co.uk/docs/Chris ... akdown.pdf, online travel insurance (instant quotes) - http://www.ckinsurance.co.uk/travel and home insurance.
Thanks.

Re: MR2 INSURANCE SCHEME WITH CHRIS KNOTT INSURANCE
I couldn't get a quote on a UK non turbo as I need to be over 30. I'm 28 with 8 years ncd so thought the days of age restrictions were over for me!

Re: MR2 INSURANCE SCHEME WITH CHRIS KNOTT INSURANCE
Hi tim...Has this age limit changed? as my experience on the phone was short lived.. (lasted 2 minutes)Tim-ChrisKnott wrote: It starts for ages 25 and over for Comprehensive cover and 19+ for TPFT cover, and you must have at least 1 year's NCB – no introductory discounts are allowed. Minimum age is 30 for Japanese imports and turbo models.
1st Question - where did you hear about us?...MR2 owners club.
2nd Question - How old are you? ...20
3rd Question - Turbo or N/A?....N/A
After that she said "we cant cover you, you have to be 25 years old.."

Re: MR2 INSURANCE SCHEME WITH CHRIS KNOTT INSURANCE
I phoned up, qouted the number and everything, all seemed good, said he'd phone back in an hour or so after he'd spoken to the under writers and I never heard anything back lol.
I'm guessing they wont insure a 21 year old with 1 year NCB, no previous claims or speeding offenses etc on a 3vz converted rev1 n/a.
I'm having trouble finding any kind of a decent qoute to be honest, the only qoute I have had is from Flux who i am with at the moment, they offered £2400 which to be honest doesnt seem like a brilliant deal considering I can get insured on a turbo import for alot less
