Rev3 turbo conversion full set up cost
Hi just wondering what an average price is for a full rev3 setup/rear clip would be. Looking at a few just now an after figures to make offers with.
Not including any labour as that's separate so just the parts needed.
Cheers
Jamie

Re: Rev3 turbo conversion full set up cost
Tricky...
I imagine something in the order of maybe £700 for a complete conversion kit that someone else has bought, got bored, can't be bothered, needs the cash etc - however you'd be buying an unknown. You're probably better off buying a rotten car that's a runner complete and taking off it what you need. £1200 starting i'd guess.

In all honesty Dan, I'd double both of those figures for a Rev 3 turbo.d-peg wrote:Tricky...

Re: Rev3 turbo conversion full set up cost
Well glad to report iv managed to find a rev 3 turbo engine plus all bits I will need for conversion, turbo, manifold, looms, running gear, hubs and it's coming with 71000 miles, had full tests, compression, leak down and sniffer. Extras include exhaust, intake and BOV. It needs a clutch but cheap enough to source.........£2500 so happy to hear that double £1200 is more a ball park figure

So my estimate was a little 'conservative'

Re: Rev3 turbo conversion full set up cost
I did it this way..
Bought a car on it's last legs, but had a load of goodies with it. Sold said goodies and stripped the car down and pulled the engine out.
The car at this point owed me nothing with still loads left to sell on.
Rebuilt the engine and went all out building the car I actually wanted to build, engine is going in it tomorrow.
All in all, I've had a fully rebuilt rev3 turbo (need to do a bit of welding but shouldn't be too bad) for under that cost you mentioned above..
But, this was a considerable amount of effort and I wouldn't have done it again, I'd rather have bought one fully running that I could enjoy. Taken 6 months to build, around 20 days man hours.

Re: Rev3 turbo conversion full set up cost
My ST205 engine (we think) and all ancillaries were £1K, then had to source a gearbox for a further 250 notes, and with odds and sods it would probably tot up to £1500. Thats just it for the gubbins though, and bought on a whim without being tested about 4 years ago! I spent just under £600 on service items believe it or not, and another £800 on fun stuff, and another £1K on the conversion labour, fault finding, sorting out niggles etc. (at an MR2 specialist).
Probably cheaper to buy one complete, yes, but not as much fun, and I did it over the course of numerous years spending a little here and a little there each month. I've also recouped about £500 selling off parts not needed from the original car.
Don't forget the niggles, they can be costly
Don't forget the niggles. There I've said it twice!

Re: Rev3 turbo conversion full set up cost
Iv got a list of things I think I may be wise to change at the same time and going about pricing them up. Does this list seem wise? Any iv left out or any I should add in? I'm only looking for 260-280bhp to start with so not sure if things like boost controller fuel pump and FPR are needed at this stage bearing in mind it already had exhaust and intake what else would I need to achieve these figures?
Clutch
Cambelt kit
Water pump
Alloy radiator
Boost controller
Fuel pump
FPR
Oil pump
Intercooler/chargecooler
HT leads
Spark plugs
Dizzy + rotor

Re: Rev3 turbo conversion full set up cost
I think you've covered it. Add a Berk downpipe and nice free flowing exhaust and no reason you won't be far off 300 with that lot

Re: Rev3 turbo conversion full set up cost
I would add to that list the HFHOE while you're there. For a £20 part stuck behind the turbo - it's a doddle to change with the engine outJamie_tbar_gt wrote:Iv got a list of things I think I may be wise to change at the same time and going about pricing them up.
