REALLY ?

that's got to be in excess of 1.8bar - you think that can be done without forged components ?

You are aware that UK dynos start at 0bhp, and US dynos start at 50 ? :)

Depends on the turbo being used mate. Saying that I wouldn't dare push mine above 300whp without changing the internals. At least not until someone has run it for more than 50k miles without issue.

Lol, yeah I'm aware there's a slight discrepancy.

i dont know if FB links work, i guess you need to be a member of the group first

https://www.facebook.com/groups/mr2oc/s ... gen4%20rod

i just typed in the search gen4 and rods, and came up with alot of info/examples

general jist

Gen 1-3 has strong rods
Gen 1-2 has cast pistons
Gen 3-4 has hyper eutectic pistons
All have forged crank
All have high nickel content blocks

Sr20 vs beams 3s turbo conversion

Post by sinjen »

That is a mess! Ringland failure running too much boost?

OP, if you get the engine, be it a gen3/4/V6/V8 , from a reputable source there is no need to open it up unless you want to modify it heavily.

No, broken ring lands don't cause this kind of mess.

It was a failed rod.

Just to get internal checked making sure they are good don't want to do a track day to find engine give out

just to return to the OP`s first question a little.

The sr20det from a pulsar gtir could be used for this swap. it`s transverse mounted, loves to rev and is good for 350hp with just bolt on mods. The hard part is the gearbox. the gtir box is not going to work so the other option is the Primera or Sunny gti fwd boxes. Driveshafts would need to be custom. None of the fwd boxes had an lsd option either.

Maybe an adaptor plate could be used to keep the mr2 turbo gearbox and then driveshafts and gearshift could be stock toyota fitment, plus there is the lds option.

Also hooking up the dials to the non toyota engine could take some time to workout.
Would need the nissan loom and ecu too or a standalone, fuel pump upgrade too.

amazingly good engine but not the easiest one to fit into a 2.

heres another idea. longitudinally mount a 13b-rew with an audi 6 speed gearbox from the A4/A6. would reduce the overall weight of the powertrain, lower the CoG, move the CoG more to the centre and forward. Would still need driveshafts, ecu, loom, fuel pump, exhaust etc. if you want to go custom, why not go mad?
The fuel bill would be stupid!

I've looked into gear box quaife engineering could do a mod for it

there is a quaife box and the PAR one but the internals are only part of the problem. once they can take the strain the case splits at the end as the 2 shafts push apart. Depends how much power is being used but anything over 350hp is likely to kill boxes.

Being only 2wd might save it a little as it would spin the wheels rather than just take of like a scolded cat. The gearbox is the real limitation with the transverse sr20det.

I think we may have somewhat different definitions of 'bolt-on'!
A reliable 350bhp from a GTi-R SR20DET is going to need quite a shopping list.

The following will need changing
- AFM
- Injectors
- Fuel pump
- Turbo
- Clutch

Plus adding a
- Boost controller
- Remap
- FMIC*

* On a MR that means a better SMIC or a boot mount.
I'm not convinced you could fit a ST205 CC.
