JapFest 2014 Club Track Time - Interested?
OK lads and ladies, seeing the demand there has been for Jay's Silverstone Track Taster session, I thought I'd investigate getting our own club track time for JapFest 2014 @ Castle Combe. (Yes, I know this is a long way in advance, but if we wait until 2014 it will be way too late) I've been in contact with JapFest to register our interest and will chase them again when they're closer to sorting out the track slots, which happens later in the year.
For now, I need to see whether we would fill the session so that I can go back to JapFest with confidence.
If you would be interested in taking part in MR2OC track time at JapFest 2014, please post a reply to this thread
This is only to gauge interest - it doesn't commit you but also doesn't reserve you a slot. You are only saying "If there was MR2OC track time, I would seriously consider buying a slot". FYI, 2013 track time was 15min long and cost £35 per car, plus £10 for a front seat passenger.

Even if the list goes beyond 20, if you're interested then keep adding your names. This not a list of reservations, at best it's a list of maybes. It just tells me how easily we would fill our track time

So, only 4 of us appear to be interested whether I organise this or not?

How about organising 1 or 2 normal track days this year? Might give people a bit more confidence to do it at a show in front of a crowd

This year was smallest OC turn out for any Japfest that I have been to. I think that was due to a lot of people being put off by the disastrous gate marshalling in 2012. A shame as there was no such problem this time. It's hard to generate interest in track time though without enough people attending in the first place. Hopefully that will change.

Problem with track days is their cost.vinp182 wrote:How about organising 1 or 2 normal track days this year? Might give people a bit more confidence to do it at a show in front of a crowd
Insurance and tyres are two that spring to mind.

Re: JapFest 2014 Club Track Time - Interested?
I know at Silverstone, the cost of a full track day is £299 per car....
That's a lot of reddies that could be spent elsewhere

It's just a thought.
Silverstone is expensive anyways. You can get open pit lanes days at say Bedfod autodrome for £199 mid summer (peak time) which in my eyes is a lot more value for money than 15 minutes for £35
@Red - depends how you drive mate

Maybe a club day at Bedford? Bedford GT is way more fun anyhow.

Well I assume on track you are going to push the car and not drive it like a gran, if you want to do that then you take it on the M6.vinp182 wrote:@Red - depends how you drive mate
As for the insurance I wouldn't risk going without it considering the risks.

All you do on a track day red is test out yours and you cars limits. There's no racing alowed and I've only ever seen 1 crash and that was a race car doing testing (which isn't alowed either)

Re: JapFest 2014 Club Track Time - Interested?
Ive not done a track day before (silverstone will be my first) and I don't plan on getting insurance. You're only going to drive to within your limits.
As for tyres, it depends how serious you are about it, you could spend a lot on track tyres or simply use half decent road tyres with good tread.
I've had a quick look and there are quite a few track days for £120-150 for a full day.
