JAE Survival Guide

Post by d-peg »

Where are MR2OC?

As you enter Wicksteed Park you’ll be given your wrist band and show guide by the big guy on the gate. Then you need to follow signs for the TSUKUBA & OKAYAMA field, this is where the stand is. In the middle of this field is a brand new toilet/shower/facilities block. The MR2OC stand is located behind this (behind the IMOC … not too shabby and better than last year AND ideal for IKO location too :cool1:

Image

We are on the plots P2 to N4 - 6 squares in total :D

When you arrive at the stand be it in convoy on your todd, please wait with your car to be directed where to park. The parking plan will not be sorted on the Thursday ish, so please hang with your car until we’ve got you appropriately parked. :th:

What to bring?

There’s been numerous threads and posts about what to bring with you. Thought I’d condense it all into one post and one place!

Essentials;
Tickets!
The missus (if you’re bringing her… they get quite upset if you forget them)
Your Car …. In this case MR2’s where humanly possible (non MR2's permitted on stand but MUST be Jap (towing vehicles/campers must have permission from MR2OC JAE planning team as well as being checked with JAE organisers) - MR2's will obviously take pride of place as well :) )
Money
Folding chair
Tent
Mallet (for tent pegs)
Inflatable bed & means to inflate it
Sleeping bag
Pillow!!!
Tea/Coffee mug
Towel + shower stuff and loo roll (they do run out !!)
Clothes
Your favourite tipple.
Hangover cure Resolve/Barocca etc (not hair of the dog)
Ciggies & lighters (if you smoke)
Camera/Phone/SatNav (sometimes all in one now)
Clean clothes!!!

Optional extras;
Food (BBQ-able) (in a cool box)
Camping Stove/Grill
Cutlery and Crockery for above
Umbrella
Sun cream
LED Camping Lantern and/or Torch
Solar Powered Battery charger for the car
Car cleaning stuff
Washing Up Bowl
Washing Up liquid
Emergency Loo Roll
Pack of "Festival Shower"

If you do not have a mallet or pump - please speak up - plenty of folk will have them for you to borrow :)

What to do or not to do?
DO come and find one of us organiser types (if you're not sure who we are - ask! someone will point us out). We’ll sort you out your welcome pack and name badges… Depending on how much we’ve already drunk we may even help you put your tent up.! The name badges are obviously good for putting usernames to faces but also and more importantly names to faces. :th: I realise I am probably shooting myself in the foot here but I’d rather not be called d-peg all weekend!

DON’T sit in your car all weekend! This is more of a big social than a car show. With lots of activities to keep us entertained from the 5 a side football to the IKO and winning best stand. More importantly a time to meet new people you’ve bee chatting to / taking advice from over the internet actually meet them! Catch up on things, check out each others cars, new modifications and so on.

DO mingle! Come say hello! We are a social bunch and I personally (and many others too) will talk to anyone. I may not make any sense but that’s by the by!

DON’T fret over not having the perfect ‘2’. Everybody’s, even the most perfect looking car, has their little imperfections. So give it a good scrub before you turn up but please don’t tire yourself out trying to clean the underside of your gearbox with a toothbrush…. Unless that’s your bag of course! ALL MR2's regardless of condition will be on display on the stand :)

What to expect?

Well ….. it’s a car show so there’s 1000’s of cars to wander round and drool over and a fair few to have a good chuckle at too! :D As said previously it is very much a social event, 5-a-side, Tug of War, It’s a KnockOut, Fireworks, Live Music, Drinking, some do fancy dress & silly stuff. So hopefully plenty to keep you entertained so most of all enjoy yourself :)

Paper plates from the supermarket and disposable cutlery. Saves on all this water wasting type of activity that seems to frequent facebook of late, and also more room in the boot :th:

Oh, and a Lezz. But we've got one of those :clapping:

In Addition to Dan's very good list of 'thing you might need for a joyful weekend at JAE - here's my definitive list (from way back in 2009!!)

I am well looking forward to JAE 2009 so I have prepared a Definitive list of things to take in priority order (for the over 50’s that is):

1. Car (MR2 preferably)
2. Cigarettes & lighter
3. Entrance ticket/Stand pass
4. Me (at my age I sometimes forget)
5. Sat- nav – essential to find my way home
6. Mug for tea – actually this rates alongside number 1 in the list
7. Roll of cumfy bum (there’s never any left when you need it most)
8. Tea, coffee, sugar, milk & water
9. Camping Chair – you can sleep in this in case you forget where you pitched the tent
10. Cool box with Food (lots of it)
11. Spare roll of cumfy bum (keep this one in the tent) – just in case of emergencies in the middle of the night
12. Extra cigarettes – just in case
13. Mobile phone in case of emergencies (heart attack, burst colostomy bag etc)
14. Drugs – (Resolve – Paracetomol – Rennie - etc)
15. Essential Camping things – Tent – sleeping bag – mattress – pillow
16. Other essential drinks – Beer – prune juice
17. Spare packs of cigarettes & two spare lighters
18. A Matt (Rev4turbomonster) – to deter unwanted camp wardens
19. A Kieren (Howlin_Mad) – to eat all the spare food I cook
20. Non-essential camping things – air bed inflator – torch & lantern - mallet
21. Cooking things, stove, pans, disposable BBQ’s, spare gas – plate & cutlery
22. Fold away table
23. Emergency pack of cigarettes and matches – just in case!
24. Secret stash of beer – just in case I mislay any
25. Money – good for shopping
26. Clean clothes
27. Did I mention spare ciggies?
28. Towel and shower kit
29. Camera and Video – not sure why I take these ‘cos I never use them?
30. List of all the above – to check off on Sunday
31. Car cleaning things – if I can be "censored"

Like last year, I have just been out and bought the goodies to do a nice big batch of chilli to heat up and dish around. This isn't a mental one, just a nice chili (as I'm sure the people that got stuck in last year can vouch for) Obviously we will need some disposable forks and bowls, a pan to heat it and something to serve it with.

For those that love it "warm" I have a batch of chilli burgers with ghost chilli and scotch bonnet as well as my renowned hot sauces making an appearance. All are welcome ;)

30. List of all the above – to check off on Sunday
31. Car cleaning things – if I can be "censored"
Because I don't
* Smoke (can't stand the smell on clothes)
* Have a sat-nav (I can read a map while sideways on a gravel road!)
* Have a need for drugs (not dyspeptic or hung over)
* Do camping (don't own a tent - I stay at a B&B)
* Need another HM (one is plenty...)
With only half the items listed it should lighten the load somewhat.
:th:

Lezz, I'm dying to know: the above list is of the things YOU are taking, so...

As the boot will be full how do you fit yourself, a Matt, and a Kieran in a MR2?
Do you remove the space saver spare wheel and stuff HM in the frunk?
Matt is a pretty big lad so I doubt HM could sit on his lap!
If you're not living life on the edge, you're taking up too much room!

That's not a list to take in the car, it's a list to make sure you have when you arrive, beit in your convoy or not! :p

You can get 2 people in an MK2 and their gear for the weekend trust me! Not like wussing out and staying in a B &B :laughing

He mentions nothing about a convoy in his post. So the only way you can be sure of having everything on the list is to bring it yourself. Never wise to rely on a third party.
Howlin_Mad wrote:You can get 2 people in an MK2 and their gear for the weekend trust me!
I don't doubt it. But his list has three people on it ( 4/18/19). Maths 101. ;)
(see my point above).
Howlin_Mad wrote:Not like wussing out and staying in a B &B :laughing
Wussing? OK smartypants, you try sleeping in a field for 3 nights without a tent! :cheeky:
Or are you offering to share yours? A bit ******* late now pal, eh? I don't think you would like it anyway: I tend to have eclectic dreams and shout obscenities. People then think (wrongly) that I suffer from Tourette's...
And forget the marquee. You never know what might be going down in there!
I'm also long past the age when sleeping in a car with bucket seats is an attractive option.
:tumble:

A) There are big things called Supermarkets. Got loads of stuff in them.

B) If you are nitpicking there will be three people in an MR2, no there won't.

C) You can "censored" off to your B and B. Between you and the Marquee, I'll get a better nights sleep by the sound of it!

:laughing

See you all there!

Indulge me. In which section does one find numbers 18 & 19? :bleh:

A bit rich to blame me because you have trouble counting.
That's what can happen when you have too much sauce...
