Newbie

Post by chase27 » 12/08/18 21:44

Hello all
I took a punt on eBay and bought a 2001 MkIII pre-facelift. Full service history, 66k miles, no accidents. Lovely car. I’m waiting for my mechanic to get back from his holidays to rip the pre-cats out if that hasn’t already been done.

First impressions: nice cabin (leather), easy to drive straight off. Very disappointing engine note with the hood up,though, but much better with it down.

Not the fastest car I’ve driven but by far the best handling. It’s perfect.

So, here’s the thing. How can I get an extra 25 hp out of the engine? I doubt I’ll need much more than that. Let’s say I have £500 to throw at it. Any ideas gratefully received.

Hi and welcome. There is next to nothing you can do to increase power in the 1zz unless you go forced induction. Money is better spent on handling mods. Andy

Thanks.

Just taken her for a blast around the North Surrey hills. Outstandingly assured car. Great fun.

I’d rip the whole exhaust off and install something which not only flowed better but weighs much less. This will gain some engine ponies but drop sprung mass for better handling.
