JDM Mk1b T-Bar NSR Arch

Post by Peter Hardy »

Hi all

Getting some bodywork done on my car and, as always, the job is turning out bigger than I hoped  .

My nearside rear wheel arch is full of filler and needs sorting properly. The bodyshop can make me a new arch but at an estimated cost of £240 to £300. I've had a look about and have found:

Spare Parts Cheshire selling a brand new rear quarter at £544. Used rear quarter with minor scrape damage at £300, pair of rear repair arches at £270.

Does anyone have any ideas, suggestions or one for sale?

Many thanks!

Peter.

Best regards

Peter.

Just to update this thread:

Scary - 244 views of this topic so far and no responses. Obviously nobody has a solution or a source of parts.

Spare Parts Cheshire do not have any rear repair arches. The webpage just says to call for availability so I called and there's no availability  . The impression I got was that Paul hasn't had any for a good while. I didn't bother asking about the other two options from his site as it's more cost effective just to get my body shop to make one.

It seems that there's nowhere on the Internet now where we can buy replacements. I've spent hours looking but am happy to be proved wrong. I would have thought that this would be a good earner for any metal fabricators who linked in with the club and would help keep more of our MR2's on the road.

Once my car is finished I will upload some pics to this thread with details of the body shop I used and the final replacement arch cost. Maybe it will help some other members. Cheers!
Best regards

Peter.

It used to be one guy who made the 3 pieces for the arch repairs and the replacement sills, he I think he retired and someone else took over, looks like he has now packed it in now as none of the usual people have any (same with ebay) I bought the arch kits and sills many years ago, I may still have contact details although I doubt they will be any use.

Really appreciate you replying, Jimi.

My apologies, I should have said in my thread that I searched before posting and found that thread you linked to and worked my way through it. Unfortunately with no success.
Best regards

That's a bummer, those kits were decent quality. Have you seen the threads ( and KY2 article I think) for using the Cherry arches and Fiesta (I think) sills. My arches were done before I got the car by Paul Woods using Cherry arches. They were still good, it was the sills and the two arch returns I had to get replaced.

Hi again, Jimi.

No, I hadn't seen any threads talking about using cherry arches. Found the one below via Google on the Woodsport Forum:

I will continue looking :th: .

FINALLY going to get my car back on Friday :yahoo: .

The bill started off at £1500 and has ended up at £2340  . I'm waiting for some pics they took during the refresh to arrive. When they do I will upload some.

Can't believe how much I've missed it and how great the weather has been since it went in! With hindsight, I should have waited until the end of summer when the car would have been hibernating anyway :crybaby: .

Next plan is to get the engine bay fully detailed. If anyone has any recommendations in the County Durham area, I'm all ears :) .
Best regards

Well, I don't have my car back!!

I arrived to find a couple of issues I wasn't happy with nor was I happy with the nonsense explanation for them. I've left the car there and told them to sort it and ring me when it's properly sorted.

I can't begin to tell you how annoyed I am. Whatever happened to pride in your work and refusing to release a car until everything is right. Even if they'd rang me this morning and said we need more time. I wouldn't have been happy but better that than travelling to get the car for nothing.

I'm going for a lie down in a dark room to lower my blood pressure.
Best regards

Peter.

Bummer  seems to be a bit of a common theme with bodyshops, similar thing happened to me when I got my sills done. I missed a Highland Drive because it wasn't ready when it should have been. :crybaby:
I seem to remember jeff had a delay in getting his back as well.

You're right, Jimi. It seems to be rife nowadays. I can't get my head around a business expecting a customer to accept sub standard work.

Spoke to the owner of the business on Tuesday and outlined exactly what I wasn't happy with and what I expected to be rectified before they trail me over again to collect the car. I said that I wouldn't be taking it anywhere unless and until these are put right and to ring me when it's all done. No phone call so far so that's a week on tomorrow from my first aborted collection date. Hopefully I will still be alive when the car comes back and able to drive 😁. Maybe next week.................
Best regards
