Speedometer and fuel gauge not working

Post by zzeezz »

Bit of background... Just got a new battery... Car not been run much this last year.... All gauges were fine... Had it off road a year so had it towed to near my new address... It was v low on fuel but I drove the last 2 miles down a farm track and a noticed speedometer was a bit flicky and not holding a fixed position... Didn't think anything of it... Next day car wouldn't start.... Added more fuel and eventually started but noticed fuel gauge shows empty but no orange light and spending doesn't read anything... What happened?

Speedo is mechanical, driven by a cable which may have broken or the drive gear in the gearbox may have failed.
Sounds like your low on fuel, the amount you added may have been enough to put the orange light out but not enough to give a reading on the gauge, you need to add a couple of gallons and see if that shows on the gauge.
Tank holds 9 gallons (41lts) the empty point is around 2 gallons, and the warning light comes on with around 1.5 gallons remaining.
Black is not a colour ! .... Its the absence of colour
