Water ingress?

Post by BALDYMONSTER »

Ok, so the passenger side carpet behind the seat seems to be getting wet.

I really don't have any leaks from the tbar except In seriously atrocious rain storms or when/if I point the pressure washer at the passenger rear pillar.

But I'm getting water coming in somewhere as to collecting in the carpet in this area.

Are there any commmon areas to check for here?

From memory there is a series of rubber bungs under the car filling up some pretty big holes. If one of these falls out or you go over something that rips it out like did once your left with a big hole.

there is a drain under the wiper scuttle panel, this should drain behind the wheel arch but can become blocked with crud. if it's blocked the void fills up until it reaches a hole above the passenger footwell.

the rear t-bar drains will fill the footwell also if they are dissconnected behind the trim, as the water hits the floor behind the seats and then runs along the floor to the front, under the carpet.

the front t-bar drain should exit behind the wing, could also be blocked or broekn along the length.

poorly fitted windscreen, this is rare but seen it twice over the years. only after a replacement screen though.

rear quater window, also rare but seen a few leak. same kinda thing as the rear t-bar drain.

if you are sure it's rain water then that's about it.. if it's not rain water than the heater matrix could have sprung a leak.

happy hunting.

rear quarterlight window seals leak after time.
you can check this by removing side trim and look for water run marks.
if yes its window out, reseal and reinstall. just dont do the 3 nuts up too tight they shear very easily.
to the rear of the t bar there is a gully that directs the water into the Chanel that goes out via the rear quarterlight window drain.
hope that helps

had it on mine, and I know of at least 6 other who had similar problem

Thanks mate, I don't suppose you have a pic of the rear of the tbar where it drains?

...as above but also chack that the pipe from the roof drain is actually in the hole in the top of the drainage pot at the back of the quarterlight - when I got my car one of the pipes was out and I had to weld the floor behind the seat because the water had been pooling there! If the window trim has been removed, this can sometimes dislodge the pipe when you replace it.

You're lucky!

I've had water drip out of my courtesy light housing onto the gear shifter on more than one occasion.

It seems I have another wee leak somewhere.

Drivers side footwell is damp.

I think I’ve found the source of the leak however, I got a new windscreen fitted a couple of years ago and where the wiper scuttle meets the screen there is a gap. The scuttle isn’t lying flush and I’ve tightened down the screws so it looks like I’ll have to seal it.

Anyone else had this issue at all?
