Re: What to do?
A car battery overnight it now seems to start and run. I've tried it several times and it starts every time now. Not sure how long this will last though.

How many more years will you be able to use the car? I'm in the same situation as you (Daily driver) and as far as I can tell, keeping them running wont be an issue for quite a long time. The MR2 has a pretty good aftermarket, parts are easy to find / reasonably priced, and work isnt that bad. Plus it'll help starting to work on it yourself, at least mechanically. And even then, we have people like mr2-ben still fabricating new parts, and developing more of those, so the aftermarket is increasing.dinono10 wrote: ↑05/05/19 9:17 Thank you for all the advice guys You've all been very helpful and all very knowledgable about the car . The rust is heartbreaking and that's only on the pictures shown here, maybe behind the outside, things it could be even worse so I'm just weighing up the pros and cons.
They really are special cars and whether or not I decide to get work done on it I will never get rid of car. I may ask Patrick to come and tow it to Bexhill and see how much it would be to go through the MOT and get it back on the road again.
At the moment that car is stored in my parent's garage as I am living back at home. But when I move back to my flat it will be kept outside.
It will also be my daily driver so realistically how many more years do you think I will be able to use the car? I'm aware that as it is a 1998 car a lot of the parts maybe getting on it. Regarding the past MOT, t there was no mention of rust and there haven't been on any MOT rust issues mentioned the car. So I guess that's a good thin
I'm just trying to be sensible about the whole thing as although I have 3 jobs including being a teacher , I'm quite sensible with my money so don't want it become a Money Pit. If after having the Sills done the rust is not going to be a problem in the future and it is also perfect using everyday for a few years I have no problem getting it all done.

If it's all working mechanically and I managed to get the rust gone I will drive it until I can't anymore to be honest. That's why I haven't got rid of the car yet. Started it up yesterday after charging the battery overnight obviously I haven't driven it, only one pop-up light works at the moment. But there's no reason why after a few thing that wouldn't pass an MOT because I was driving it up until a year ago.Ryanhill wrote: ↑06/05/19 0:24How many more years will you be able to use the car? Went to see my girlfriend in the roadster today, and to get to hers I have to drive through loads of B roads in the country, I must say it is a really nice car to drive and possibly even a better Drive than the Mark 2.
However, the driving position of the MR2 just makes it such a special car it's hard to explain.
