Instrument cluster dead - Please help!- MOT this week

Post by Sonac »

I had my instrument cluster out about an hour ago because some of the bulbs were gone and I have an MOT this week. I put all the new LED bulbs in and its really nice and bright.

But as I was pushing the cluster back in I accidently shorted one of the screws on the back of the cluster on my steering colum. Cluster instantly died and I heard my intercooler fan come on (not sure if that a coincidence because it hasn't come on since).

I went though every fuse on all 3 fuse boxes and they all look totally fine. My MOT runs out tomorrow so urgently need to get this fixed!

Speedo, Tach and engine management lights are all dead.

Anyone know what I have done? Thanks so much in advance.

Additional info: Tail light, interior clock and radio etc all work fine. Wipers work fine. Only thing on the stalk not working is indicators but the hazard light switch works. Fuel gauge also works as does the door open light.

It's a rev 2 jap import turbo. Engine still runs.

I was in a rush as I was losing light so I just visually inspected all the fuses.

Does the dome fuse power the instrument cluster then? I assumed it was for the dome light, which by the way, functions fine.

Thanks for the fast response. Really appreciated.

Thanks for the reference. I'll take a look at the BGB.

I know where ecub and dome is but where is gauge located? If I found a fuse called gauge i'd instantly replace that!

Wow am I really that blind haha. It was in front of me all along. I'll steal a fuse out of something else to give it a test as I have no extras laying around unfortunately. I just hope I havent totally borked this instrument cluster. Would be a pain getting a new one, I have no idea on the ins and outs of MR2 clusters. I know turbos and jap ones are different. Mine looks to have been converted from mechanical to electric. And its in MPH but up to 160mph. Would have no idea where to even start!

What would ya know. It was the gauge fuse. All right working again. Thanks so much for the help.

Weird thing is the fuse looks perfectly fine. No melting or discoloration. Fuse wire inside looks good still. That's why I didn't get it last night it seems. It was getting dark and I was tired haha.

Thanks again
