Rusty sensor bracket

Post by peter walker »

What's this thing? The bracket is all rusty and I want to replace it, but I've no idea where to get a new one.

Thanks guys 😁

It's the temperature sensor that tells the car when to turn on the engine bay fan. Be aware if you try to unbolt the bracket it's highly likely at least the bolt will sheer leaving you with a worse situation than you currently have.

Damn. That sounds pants. Any recommendations on what the best course of action is?

I made a new one from some aluminium but I have a feeling a cable tie or two would probably work. Yours doesn't look too bad so I would agree with a lick of paint and leave it.

Though they were all rusty/crusty. Cleaned mine up in place and coated in in Dynax UC.

I have a contact locally who's been breaking up MR2's, but I guess they will all be rusted out. It seems to be still holding the sensor, not sure how!

You might find one that someone has already refurbished https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/384217495436 ... olid=10001

Thanks👍

I'd spotted that one, looks solid.

Just taken the plunge on it.

Need to get an engine cover release cable aswell, a few on that auction site, but Toyota can still supply for £63.
