E10 Fuel - Dangerous, or not?
Daily articles in press and social media saying that E10 fuel is bad news for "classic" cars, seems to indicate anything earlier than 2002 build.
Does anybody know whether these are for real, or just scare stories, will MR2s be affected, especially Mk2?

AFAIK Mr T says 1998 onwards will be OK (apart from a couple of Avensis models. So MK1 & MK2's can't use it, but E5 will still be available.

Re: E10 Fuel - Dangerous, or not?
According to the Gov. website cars manufactured after 1 Jan 1998 are OK to use E10. Translating this to the Toyota MR2 Mk2 this seemingly allows the Rev5 models to safely use E10.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I was under the impression that the Rev4 engine was esseentially the same as the Rev5. So the government is saying my 1996 Rev4 cannot use E10 as it was manufactured before Jan 1st 1998. So which do I use ?

Nope - all MK1's and Mk2's should use E5. The mk3 is okay. Just means fills ups have got more expensive as you'll need to use super unleaded which will remain E5. I imagine most of us are not using MR2's as a daily any more so the hit on the pocket is not that big a deal.supercookie wrote: ↑01/09/21 19:43 According to the Gov. website cars manufactured after 1 Jan 1998 are OK to use E10. Toyota GB have stated that all petrol engined models with a few exceptions from January 1998 onwards are E10 compatible. That includes nearly all Rev5's assuming its on build date, with Rev5 build dates starting 12/1997.d-peg wrote: ↑02/09/21 10:50Nope - all MK1's and Mk2's should use E5. The mk3 is okay. The problem I have with that is there are no changes to the fuel system with the Rev5, the only change according to the parts catalogue is injector O rings in 06/1998 which does not align with the 01/1998 date from Toyota.
I suppose there may be a difference in the ECU mapping that means a Rev5 will be happy on E10 but a Rev4 won't, but this seems unlikely to me - they didn't know back then that E10 would be mandatory in 22 years time, and why would they care anyway? The car will be well beyond any reasonable manufacturer support / obligations.
Do you have information to the contrary re: the 01/1998 date from Toyota GB?
