Draining tank

Post by Padraig 04 »

Hi lads
I made the fantastic decision that green diesel should go in my petrol Jerry can and put that in my poor mr2 :crybaby:. So after a spark plugs change and a battery charge she fired back up (I poured about half of a tank of petrol in to dillute) and since I have a massive exhaust leak my car was bellowing white smoke which hopefully is just the diesel burning off. Now ofcourse it wouldnt be a big problem if I drove this car but I don't so I have to drain the tank and I'm not in the position to pull the tank out, Ive tried to sithen the tank but there seems to be something that prevents you putting a tube down the tank. Now shouldnt whatever that blocks the hose open when you put petrol in shouldn't it? So my theory is to pour the petrol down the hose while trying to push the hose it. If anyone has any experience being this much of a knob and being in the same situation any advice would really help. My mr2 is a 94 so before anyone says unfortunately I don't have the bolt you can unscrew to drain the tank.

Thanks,
Padraig

I'll try and explain this the best I can but maybe worth looking at some youtube videos.

Locate your fuel line to the engine, it's just above the lower front engine mount and leads to the N/S where you'll see your fuel filter. You can disconnect that and put a plastic hose on it leading to a jerry can. Then under your ashtray there is an access panel to the fuel pump wires (You'll need to remove the gear surround and centre console). Once that's out you can just wire up a 12v Battery and the fuel pump will drain the tank for you.

It may sound like a long way round but should be more effective than trying to get it out the inlet.
