Gear Selection

Post by nick »

I have had some problems getting up to 3rd gear, on track, accelerating from 2nd to 3rd. Any suggestions? Known problems?

engine mounts front and rear (gearbox mounts) soft allowing the engine to rock which in turn stretches the gear selector cables enough to make it stiffer to change gears.
had this on my V6, normalised after replacing with polybushed mounts.

Thanks Pete, interesting, I changed the front mount a couple of years ago as it had failed, but not the others. This would make sense as I was changing gear at full revs out of a corner. How many are there?

you need to do 2,
front hanger by gear linkage and rear hanger above the subframe, those will stop the engine rocking from full revs. no need to do the ones on the sidewalls unless you have the engine out then maybe worth doing.
