Central inside light
For my mk3 2003, the central light which is supposed to come on automatically when you open the door does not come on. You have to manually move the switch to on and off instead. Has anyone fixed this before? Thanks.

Re: Central inside light
Is it not a 3 position switch ? where the 3rd position enables the door switches so the light goes On/Off with the door opening/closing. Most car interior lights work like this, certainly the MK1 & MK2 have this facility

Yes it's 3 way. So the middle position does not work when the door is opened. Only the on and off positions now work.

Re: Central inside light
Sounds like your door switch is stuck, does it work in the middle position if you open the passengers door?

You are right Jimi, the light comes on for passenger door! How do I unstick the driver's door switch?

Re: Central inside light
Find the switch, I'm not that familiar with MK3's so I can't say for certain where it is. I'd guess it's somewhere on the rear door pillar (they are usually near the bottom) be a little round button possibly with a rubber cover. I'd try some WD40 and work it in/out by hand. One of the MK3 peeps will know exactly where it is.

Can anyone else help? I found only one 'switch' on the body of the car which contacts a rubber point on the end of the door. But the switch is covered in rubber and it seems to work ok so I'm not sure if there is another switch but i assume this one switch has multiple uses. Thanks.

Re: Central inside light
Just because it goes in/out doesn't mean it's working, did you test it with a meter ?
It must be accessible from the inside, you may have to remove the trim panel on the door pillar to get to it.

Good news. The switch was replaced (15 pounds) by Drift Limits and its all working fine again. Thanks for pointing me in right direction.
