Optimal rev level for changing gears?
Hi everyone,
Assuming these engines are bullet proof and loved to be revved. Does anyone have the torque curves for the Z1 engine and what the max revs are vs when you should change assuming you want max acceleration to 70mph?
Does the car have a rev limiter? What level of revs should you keep it below in order to avoid potential engine problems (my car has 74k miles)
Any info would be great thanks.

I’m guessing that no one has ever used the words ‘bullet proof’ when discribing a 1zz

The MK3 factory engine is not bullet proof, its not even a great engine. The 3S-GTE is a legend in comparison.

Re: Optimal rev level for changing gears?
Unfortunately, the 1zz engine is definitely not bulletproof if you have a car from before c.55 reg :( Toyota updated the Pistons/Oil Control Rings c.52 reg but that didn't work so they did it again c.55 reg and that did seem to work however you can't really go just by the reg of the car to see whether you have the later engine. The UK MR2 Roadster page on facebook has the engine number we believe was the start of the last upgraded engines. We swapped out our 108K Y reg engine (after finding metal shavings in the sump!) last year for a 2006 c.72K engine which has one of the last engine numbers and so far so good!
