Petrol cap hiss

Post by Baino »

Good afternoon all,

I have just bought a 2000 MR2 roadster as a second car/bit of a project. I am a complete noob at the minute though and was looking for a bit of advice if possible. Everytime I open the petrol cap it hisses with a release of pressure. This happened three times in one day without the car being turned on and has happened everytime since. I haven't driven it much yet as the exhaust on it is ridiculous and I am trying to source a decent condition original. However I did test drive it for around about an hour and a half as well as drive it home (over another hour) without any noticeable issues. I was just wondering whether this is a common thing as I have never come across it before, or if there are some easy checks I can do on the EVAP system. I notice the charcoal canister is very easy to replace and not expensive bit don't just want to dive in replacing random things. The car has only done 66,000 miles.

Thanks for your time,

Baino.

Mine hisses too when I fill it up.

What type of exhaust is it?

You may find someone who wants to part exchange their original if you have an aftermarket exhaust as these are often sought after.

Thanks for the reply. Good to know that it's just me not knowing my new car yet.

My car has an exhaust identical to the one pictured below (not sure if it's the same make) Unfortunately the bumper was butchered when it was fitted.
