Cheap Pillowball adjustable top mounts from Celica

Post by matt simpson »

Just thought I would post this up on here. I wanted to replace my top mounts with some adjustable ones to add a bit more camber the proper way.

On your favourite auction sites etc you can pickup these very cheap Chinese adjustable top mounts for Celica 2000 to 2006 which have the same bolt pattern/spacing as the MR2 Roadster on the front. I paid £30 delivered for the pair :yahoo:

They have the same damper tube thread size etc too. The 3 bolts that go though the inner wing are 2mm bigger but these are easy to enlarge on the car.

The only difference is the collar and top nut is designed for a slightly longer threaded section on the damper, but this is easily overcome by reducing the length of the top hat collar, and turning a bit off the nuts shoulder.

It is a good idea to oil your pillow ball top mounts, so make sure you keep some access to allow a few drops of oil to be applied every trackday etc. My final combination is a new KYB Excel G dampers, with new genuine Toyota top cups 48044-17030 and rubber protectors 48157-17030, Tein springs, FEBEST TSHB-12 bump stop gaiters and top pillow blocks.
