Pre-cat and cat worried!!

Post by flying-spanner »

Hi all. :th:

Really hoping that you guys/Girls can help

I'm new to the mr2 scene and bought my first mr2 mk3 a week ago it has ftsh and 57k on the clock 2000 w plate.

After looking through some of the posts etc i have heard alot about the pre-cat failures which in turn caput your engine!

What is the story?

I have just came back from having a custom exhaust built and fitted but only from the cat back was this a good move or should I have had the hole system done?

Is there any tell tale signs I should be looking/listening for?

I was previously a Honda guy and never heard of any probs like this I cant believe another big jap company can let this happen to there customers and not do anything about it

Any help advise would be appreciated and welcome many thanks in advance.

P;S how do I become a full member? Do I go through the shop?

Pre-cat and cat worried!!

Post by uktotty »

Pre-Cats are ceramic and due to heat they crack/shatter
At this point little bits of the pre-cat can enter the engine and break things!
Really easy to remove the manifold. smash all the bits up and remove the precats.
Just make sure you get it done as it can be a car killer

The precats dont shatter because of heat.
