Total Loss of power / Performance Problems on 1.8vvti

Post by botski »

We've had a 2001 Mk3 MR2 for one year now.

It's been great up until about two weeks ago. My wife was driving to work and the car lost power almost completely - it was only firing on a couple of cylinders by the sounds of it.

The oil level was at the bottom of the dipstick. It was booked into the garage for MOT and 60,000 mile service the following week so we did not run it until the following week.

It ran surprisingly fine. The garage did an oil and filter change, new plugs. Since we have got it back the car is definitely not right. It is underperforming and lacking power. It also seems noisier than usual.

The Toyota garage hasn't got a clue because no engine management lights have come on.

Where do we go from here please ? MR2 specialists? We're near Burnley - does anybody know of any good reliable MR2 specialists in the vicinity

Many Thanks for your help

It's almost as if it's only running on 8 valves with the variable technology not kicking in

Is this likely to be a precat problem ? Any help much appreciated
Cheers
