Full screen replacement head unit with iphone X compatibility?

Post by BALDYMONSTER »

ICE is not something I know much about at all, i mean at all.

But I am hoping to replace the head unit I have with as large as possible touchscreen iphone X compatible item at some point. As in a long time from now as I am not exactly flush with the green stuff right now or for the forseeable.

What size screen can be fitted once you take out the head unit and Toyota blanking tray? Just how "compatible" are they with iphones then? Are we talking they basically once connected become the screen of your iphone and allow you to just use the head unit as you would your iphone and all your apps or much more restrictive? As in you can only use a few apps at best?

Can you at least use the gps scamera detector apps and stanav apps, play vids, music, access pics and use your satnav etc? All whilst safely parked up obviously. I have a very cool GPS verified speedometer with other bits and pieces I use everytime I drive the car, is it likely i can still utilise this app?

I'd also want a reversing camera but with the ability to use it whilst parked up but not neccessarily whilst in reverse, a realistic possibility?

Sorry for all the questions but like I say I am totally hopeless with any form of ICE.

its a double din unit, so thats the limiting factor.
just check that they fit double din

6.2" appears average with high of 6.8" on the ones I just looked at quickly

Not Plan B again!! Why don't we just go with plan B in the first place?

Nope, that's got me as well?

Explain, expand please?

Are you saying that an android head unit is a self contained head unit like and android phone sort of thing?

Looks like a bit of a bargain tbh, how much cutting and fannying about is required to get it to fit the MR2 then?.

Is there a plug and play adapter available with it to connect it up for an eletrical phobe lie mysel?

din is the standard industry size, the MR2 was designed for a double din head unit as an upgrade, a single din unit and blanking plate as standard.
so if you see double din

just a selection to show

single din unit

single din unit with pop out screen
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/7-Single-1-D ... 51ff204edf

all will fit in your 2

Which one would you recommend for the ease of fitting for the MR2.

Just posted a couple of pics of my Droid HU in another thread. Does everything you want and more. Fits like a glove. Can post up sizes if you want but didn't take any special work to adapt into space.

Thanks Jeff, that looks like a decent bit of kit especially for the money.

Can you download a decent satnav or does it come with one?

What about scammers gps detector apps, can you download that for it?

How easy is it to fit? Can you just remove the head unit and blanking plate and get the appropriate p and p harness?

Sorrry for such basic questions but I’m hopeless with techy stuff.

I have a Pioneer APP Radio SPH-DA120 in my GT86 (that came out of my MR2 when I sold it). It's a standard double din system that works great with my iPhone X...
