France F1
So me and Patrick are off to Le Castellet in June and want to take some decent roads down there over two days. On the way back would likely be boringly direct. Any suggestions for a route?

Re: France F1
Le Castellet as in near Marseille ? That's a bloody long way - how many days are you reserving for travelling ?

Re: France F1
I know it's a fair whack. We could do it over three days rather than two, deffo more sensible, but we are used to doing a whole day in the car when we do our Euro trips.

Re: France F1
Done that sort of route several times and I think Tony's choice is good. Only real difference I did was to take D6015 down the right bank of the Seine at Rouen and hence via N154 to Evreux, and I can't recollect exactly why other than to miss central Rouen. The roundabouts at Chartres are great fun - don't the French just love roundabouts - they go on forever.

Re: France F1
That's Google Maps for you.
If, (as I did) you use drag and drop to plot a route it automatcally picks the shortest.
I failed to spot that it had crossed to the right bank of the river at Rouen.
I agree. It's better to cross the Seine (and the Eure) at Pont-de-l'Arche.
Alternatively hop onto the A13 at J21 (via the D7) and exit at J19.

Re: France F1
Maybe it depends on what you mean by "decent roads". If you want to avoid boring 80mph autoroutes, I had planned to go to near Nice a couple of years ago, doing that.
In extremely broad outline:
Calais/Tunnel
A26 to Troyes - just to try to recover the hour.
Then non-autoroute as much as possible. You can work out a route on Google Maps. Most French "D" roads are quite good, you can always street view the odd stretch to see what they are like.
I was going to do it in three with two overnights, Macon and Brignoles, using budget hotels. Brignoles not that bad for Le Castelet. If you want and can read gps files, I could try to remap my intended route.

Re: France F1
Google maps is so annoying. It redirects to the shortest/quickest route every time. I'm using MyMaps to at least display my route. Anyone got a better way of route creation to upload to a satnav? Or will I have to create my own lat/long wapoints? Andy

Re: France F1
I use it for planning the Kent Run. All you need to do is left click on the route then drag it to where you want to go. The only limitation is you can't do it more than 12 times between your start and end points.
Example - https://goo.gl/maps/BHrzrXHxQWu
There is an option to send it as a text which contains the link to your mobile.
I've never used it though so can't comment on its efficacy.
See the links to MyRoute-app here.

That's a Google My Maps route. Whether you use Google Maps or My Maps the problem is that neither has an option to export what you have created to a sat nav. Ridiculous but there you go,
You'll have to use a file transfer app.
e.g. GPS Visualiser.
or Basecamp.

Re: France F1
For my bike rides, I use a combination of two things. Route planning using bikehike.org.uk; don't be put off by the name, it will plan for anything and will use roads/paths accordingly, I actually mapped out the route that I mentioned earlier in this trail from Calais to Macon. It has an export option which will download a gpx or tcx route file. I then use Osmand on my Android phone, which will import a gpx file and has the ability to guide you along it by voice, just like a Satnav. I've planned bike rides in France and followed them (not going the sort of distance you are, though!)
By the way, that's my Cannondale Synapse Carbon Ultegra I'm talking about; not an engine in sight, except poor old me!
