not really spirited driving
some of you guys may have already seen this but thought id share for those not on social media.

Just re-read your project topic, great spec so hoping this phoenix can rise again in the future. Amazing amount of damage at 40, glad that there really was no human cost. That's one of the 9 lives spent!

Still not sure how im still here let alone with just a few nicks and sore ribs.
As for whats next? really dont know. this is the biggest shunt ive had in 27 years of driving and the only time ive really felt i was super lucky.
i may reshell or i may go for a more sensible MR2 not really decided yet, ill openly admit that this one has shook me to the core. the fact that wasnt driving that fast or pushing on and this happens kinda makes you think

Yeah that's going to readjust your point of view somewhat! Maybe best not to make any firm choices till the shock has warn off and the new normal settles in.

Seeing the pic in your link, I'm amazed that you only suffered such minor injuries and very glad to hear that you're still with us.
A side on impact at the B pillar, which is the most vunerable part of the bodyshell, often results in a far worse outcome. Very fortunate you didn't have a passenger otherwise the consequences could have been so much more catastrophic.
A few feet either way and you could have had a much less abrupt ending in the bushes.
A sad fate for such a nice motor but metal can be replaced. As for what's next, once you're over the intial shock, I would advocate dusting yourself down and getting back in the saddle as soon as possible. I can vouch for that literally. Falling off a horse is painful every time and can very easily result in fractured bones.
Furthermore, it's possible to get caught out in any car irrespective of it's performance envelope. That wouldn't be a deterrent AFAIAC. YMMV.

17x7.5 and 17x8.5 F/R with 215/40 F and 245/40 R
