Cambelt / oil pump / water pump change - Essex

Post by SonicSW20 »

I noticed yesterday that my cambelt is rather more overdue than I thought, and it really could do with changing ASAP. While it would be interesting to take the DIY route, I just don't think I'll have the time, and I could do with getting it done before giving it abuse at Santa Pod :laughing

Anyone have any recommendations on a garage to do it? Near Colchester, Witham, Chelmsford or Dagenham would be preferable.

Way too far really. I'm waiting for a call back from the closest decent garage to me. Not an MR2 specialist or anything like that, but belt and water pump (oil pump not a service item apparently?) changes aren't hugely different from car to car. Of course if there is a more MR2 specific place around I'd rather give them my money to support them more than anything else!

Going to DIY it with a couple of friends - the quotes were just too high for me! Parts (all genuine Toyota where possible) cost me ~£300 from TCB. How hard can it be? :laughing

Pulled the belt off the engine I had whilst it was out, wasn't difficult but I can see it being a PITA with engine in situ. Let us know how you get on/when you're going to do it as I could do with a butchers whilst it's in the bay.

Getting the crank pulley off, and refitting the wrap around engine mount bracket are the most fun parts.

I've done a few with the engine in, and its not a nice job to be honest.
