Wheels and tyres for mk2

Post by SteveandDebra1 »

Hi all. I have just purchased a 1992 MR2 mk2 turbo today with the standard wheels. I still have my previous MR2 which is a 1991 N/A MK2 series 1. my previous 1991 car has a set of genuine Wolfrace 18" wheels I fitted which I was going to fit to my turbo, but on inspection there is no way they would clear the turbo model as it has been lowered. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a set of silver alloys to replace the standard wheels with tyres (not budget but not premium, mid range tyres), but must be new and wider than the originals. My budget is approx £ 400 - £600).
Regards steve

18s are a bit big for a mk2, bigger wheels make the handling a bit heavier and ruins the ride. 16s offer a much better driving experience but good tyre options are becoming limited

tried 16s with good tyres, didnt like them felt a bit mmm when pushing on. very comfortable for cruising.
much prefer 17s as direct feel in handling with good tyres.

know 2 who had 18s and they look good with 35 profile tyres, handled very well but ride suffered like all low profile stuff.

your choice but I would recommend 17", good tyres available from just about every manufacturer.

Still up for grabs after two and a half months, so price may be negotiable.
Your location isn't in your profile, so whether collection is viable for you is moot.

If you insist on brand new gear then use KY2 for the required technical info (ET offset in particular).
Then Google is your friend for aftermarket alloy wheel suppliers.
You'll most likely need to call them though. Many don't list staggered sets on their webpages.
Some won't offer them at all.
If you're not living life on the edge, you're taking up too much room!
