Re: Japfest Track Day Tips+Advice?
Yep. You should have received the paperwork from Kelsey Publishing (mine arrived about 2 weeks ago). See bullet point 5 on the Auto Activity Registration Form.
Track day insurance is not compulsory. I didn't bother at either of Jay's Silverstone events but then I knew that I wouldn't be circulating with a bunch of unknown potential bell ends...
You have to weigh up two risks.
1. Your talents are not what you thought resulting in intimate acquaintance with a barrier.
2. You become involved in someone else's indiscretions.
The first is entirely in one's own hands. The second can be managed by keeping away from the madding crowd. This can be done with a bit of lateral thinking at the start. It will be a while before any risk of being lapped crops up.

If you're not living life on the edge, you're taking up too much room!

Good advice Tony. point 1 is going to be avoided by taking it easy.I might be a laughing stock for the audience but its my car and i will drive it as i please!TonyleFrog wrote:Yep. Point 2 - I was aiming to stay away from the pack. If need be, let them all over take or get to the back of the queue?
Got my carbotechs and predator rears ordered with braided hoses. Hopefully they go on this long weekend. I got avons tr1s on the front and some rubbish on the back of my 16s or have yokos on the front and nexens on the rear of my original 15s.

Re: Japfest Track Day Tips+Advice?
That is worrying.
How many are on track at the same time! Looks like dozens :-/
I sure as hell hope to avoid bunching up like that.
Quite clearly everyone is pushing as hard as they can. And that's on just 1 corner!
I do hope the 'novice' time isn't full of nutters.

You do see people braking at the bend and going straight, rookie mistake.jimGTS wrote:That is worrying.

Some massive understeer on the BMW's in the video, why the hell would you not let off, just pushing themselves off the track!

Still, you don't want to mixing with any 'tards at Quarry!
I'm not sure on the maximum numbers in a session.
This one had 12 (2 groups of 6).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRyNTARvtUg
Whereas this one appears to have had a lot more.

Try to be towards the back of the the right hand lane as it goes second.
From there you'll be able to observe the performance of those ahead of you.
Their track positioning, lines into corners, braking points, etc.
You can then work out the best place to pass if you're faster than them.
If you're not living life on the edge, you're taking up too much room!

Re: Japfest Track Day Tips+Advice?
Can anyone suggest a minimum make of rear tyre to use on track. I've been warned about using cheap makes but my budget is limited.
I've got nexens on rear and Yoko's on front on my standard 15s and Avon's on front and a crap make (sempio or something) on rears of my 16s.
