joomla is set for 15 mins session time out though

Just FYI, did a longer post just now and lost the lot when submitting. remembered to copy first !
This started out as a quick reply, then full. bombed out from full, paste and go and it posted fine again from full editor.

maybe 25 mins start to finish of writing the post. someone else had replied in the time it took to write too.

It not only loses posts but when posts are accepted they seem to be completely ignored. I am still trying to fugure out if there is anyone actually using this site that replies to tech questions. I would also be keen to know what benefit the £12 subscription actually gives you :ranting1:

Well that's a completely different issue. From what I can see the only 'technical' question you have asked is if some new headlight bulbs would light up the road better. I'll respond in that thread.

Jeff, what would be the effect of making the timeout longer? Do other forum setups leave that setting to 0 or infinite?

this is a forum wrapped in another content management system , so there are two settings , the forum side which Jimi mentioned which is set to infinite, then the CMS which has a different setting and is set to the recommended settings of 15 mins for maximum security , i guess the only effect on extending the CMS setting would be to have a slight decrease in site security

unsure how many folk have this timeout problem

SQL error while attempting to reply to this post http://mr2oc.co.uk/forums/41/165251.html?start=14

Chrome on Android 6. Doesn't appear to be time out related as I was on the post page for 2 mins at most.

I think I know what caused it, I used a smiley emoji from the Android keyboard. Just tried this post with a smiley and it gave the same error.

I thought the Joomla session timeout logged you out if it expired ?
