remote central locking

Post by hjs »

ok so basically im unfortunate enough to own one of the only mk2 mr2 models that didnt come with remote central locking. and im tired of having to put my key in the doors in this cold weather! so im really looking for recommendations on what the best after market alarm systems are, that are not to hard to install, and that dont come with rediculous price tags! im looking to spend around £100? is that a good price to start at? i dont really know where to look? :confused1: any help would be great! :cool1:

remote central locking

If you want a reputable cat 1 alarm the ball park is about 300. I mean 100 will get you central locking maybe but then again you might have additional relay costs etc.

I'm no mr2 electrical specialist at all and I'm sure someone will have a better suggestion.

Yep full closure an additional 20-40 quid add on to a 300 quid alarm. Not sure about cheaper alarms. Decided not to bother this time round after having that on my last 2.

Check yell.co.uk out for local alarm fitters, ring around though and don't be scared to ask advice. All depends on what you want. My car is modded with some cash so I wanted an alarm which was a cat1.

Keep an eye on eBay for a bargain I picked up a brand new old stock Clifford alarm for £80 should have been over £300 new lol. Cat 1 and 2 are different levels of protection something to do with immobilisers I think

How about just adding something like this?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UNIVERSAL-UPG ... 302wt_1048

Will be dead simple to install and they include the wiring diagram too

I bought one of these for the mr2 since it never gets parked in public fancy alarm didnt bother me, and for the price you cant argue

I have fitted Falcon alarms like http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Falcon-Predat ... 5ad250feb9 which has remote start and you can fit a window closure module to it, In car stuff are very helpful and supply data sheets on their website to tell you which wires to connect to to help you, or you can use a more basic alarm like http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sniper-Easy-F ... 3f045f3162.

The alarm itself works great, i personally wouldnt bother with the remote start if i remember correctly it only runs the engine for about 2 mins, basically it just sends a 12volt supply to the ignition switch like turning the key would. Its more of a gimmick really, i only really fitted it cos i wanted remote central locking as the switch in the door was fecked and didnt send the unlock pulse to the passengers door, the alarm wires into the locking circuit after the feed from the drivers door so fixed the problem with out having to take the door card off. I also added a couple of extra sirens under the dash and the frunk with the main siren under the engine cover :D

Also if you go for the hawk one get this one as is cheaper, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAR-ALARM-REM ... 548wt_1048
the link i posted was including 4 locking solenoids which you wont need,

Hope this helps bud :D

OOOh Clifford are very good alarms, but will be a pain in the "censored" to fit, all the wires are usually black and clifford only let registered installers have the wiring diagrams, i've had an old concept 50 in my garage for a few years now, but that has less features that the hawk i fitted myself, the clifford would probably cost quite a few quid to install and thats if i could find someone who had the manual

I've fitted a couple of Clifford's myself tbh the wiring/manuals aren't too hard to find on google but if you pick up a new one the wiring is all labeled anyway lol.
