It was incredible Michi!

Organising a club stand for 35 cars is tough for a weekend, organising a meet for 90 cars is one hell of a job, but doing it for 200/300+ is f***ing difficuilt! But we've done it in the past (I organised 80+ myself for the middle of the country meet), and the whole team know what we are doing now and how to do it as we've been there, got the T-Shirt, cap and GWR record :D

:th:

I'm 99.9% sure if we get the members willing to turn up, we'll cane the UAE record by a long shot ;)

Will be a day I will remember for the rest of my life just brilliant to see mr2 as far as the eye can see

the MR2 is more than a car, it's a lifestyle.

The important word in the title of the record is 'Parade'. The cars all need to be driven simultaneously. A factory production line or parking lot doesn't qualify.
Chris69 wrote:You'll have to excuse my ignorance but why?
Why do people do anything? George Mallory is reputed to have answered the question "Why do you want to climb Mount Everest?" with the words "Because it's there".
Chris69 wrote:Why not put some logistics and planning into something useful or at least get everyone to chuck in a tenner for charity, make it worthwhile.
What you deem 'useful', I might not. As for supporting a charity, great idea. Except that getting a consensus could be somewhat tricky as almost everyone has their own favourite.

Really? Then please explain this as it seems TG still doesn't get it (GWR's criteria).

I have no wish to p*** on your chips but without the active support of other Toyota clubs as mentioned previously I just can't see sufficient numbers materialising. Which brings us back to the thorny question of whether egos will get in the way.

Bear in mind that Rockingham attracted 300+ whereas two years later Silverstone only got 226. My experience is that since the recession began to really turn the screw on people's discretionary spending the attendance at OC runs/meets has dropped by a considerable margin.

Silverstone circuit can easily accommodate the numbers if the organisational team is able to cope with them - http://rumors.automobilemag.com/new-wor ... 70323.html

Always the optimist Tony eh?

We can break the record of 257 easily. We had more than that at Rockingham, and with more clubs involved it's an easy win. Don't be so negative old timer ;)

That was before both the run on Northern Rock and the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers followed by the subsequent worldwide financial meltdown. Two years later the numbers at Silverstone had dropped by a little over 25%. June 2013 will be another four years on from that. People now have a lot less cash to spare, the price of fuel has rocketed and is set to go on climbing.
Howlin_Mad wrote:and with more clubs involved it's an easy win.
The necessity of more clubs being involved is EXACTLY the point I was making!

Mayhap, but others may be less well paid or have greater financial commitments and need to cut their cloth accordingly.

Would we really be able to get those sorts of numbers again? I don't know?

Inviting other Toyotas, if that's the case lets make it performance cars.

Venue wise, I have a disused airfield that I can book. Has a 6 mile perimeter track. With a long run way. Just a thought.

Um, the record is longest parade of Toyotas. Inviting non-Toyotas means we wouldn't be even attempting the same record! Besides, you can't define "performance car" well enough to set a record with it.

I think Gaz meant Toyota performance cars (ie MR2's (maybe include mk3's in this ... :p ) Supras, Celicas et al)

I do agree that financials will play a large part in being able to pull it off...
(I'm still up for it though)

Gaz - the Airfield.... What's width of the perimeter track? remember Silverstone (not that i was there but watch the videos) was 3 cars abreast... :th:
