OK, my 2p worth...

Friday
I can understand the need to amend the Skye leg to make it more manageable. However if the Friday start is to be from Fort William, then presumably that means staying Thursday night in the town or somewhere nearby? If so, that's another 90 miles and a couple of hours beyond Dumbarton which we Sassenachs need to factor in.

Monday
Can I put in a plea for a finish in Perth rather than Dumbarton? That could be achieved by doing the 'first thoughts' Friday route in reverse. We did Glencoe and the 'Scotsburgring' this year so might it not add more interest to revisit the 2012 route? The A939 over the Lecht and the A93 over the Cairnwell are a far better drive than the A82 down Loch Ness. A finish at Perth also gives those from south of the border who desire it the choice of taking a more scenic route home than mile upon mile of motorway.

Thanks tony for your input :th: , Ann and myself welcome ideas and suggestions on the routes so if you or anyone has any special requests post them on this thread and we will consider them before any final decision is made.
Is Fort William to far to travel on Thursday for you southerners, would Dumbarton or Perth be better for you.

Pete - a few examples (Tony has further to go than me)

Dumbarton is 342 miles @ 5.15 hrs
Fort William is 429 miles @ 7.5 hrs
Perth is 372 miles @ 5.45 hrs

on that basis Ft William is not a preferred starting point.
Still mulling over if I am on this one (but looking more likely as each day goes by)

Looking at your map, Friday's route to Ullapool is already over 7 hours from Fort William so it
might not be practical to stay overnight on Thursday at either Dumbarton or Perth.

For the last couple of years I have been the only participant from the South East region, so am probably the only one for whom an even earlier start on Thursday morning would be an issue. It's a 150 mile trek for me just to meet up for breakfast with the West Midlands crew! That's nearly 3 hours on a weekday depending on how bad the tailback is on the M6.

I usually stay with my sister on the way back. If I can do so on the way up as well that would be the ideal solution. It's only 3 hours from her house to our usual RV at Tebay services so, even if we all met there earlier than hitherto I would still have time for breakfast first and no need to be up long before dawn!

The routes look brilliant! Really looking forward to Saturday and getting a blast around Skye. I best book my hotel for the Thursday this time,Perth is a bit further away than Dumbarton!

You may be - into a peat bog... :cheeky:

You mean you've only just noticed?
If you remember we also did it anti-clockwise in 2010.

I do remember the spirited drive up to wick, how can I forget. It was a good taster of what was to come. :-)
