How to tell if you have central locking

Post by Jellysenpai »

Hi there, so I recently bought an mr2 rev2 turbo which has been off the road and put back on by the previous owner. He isnt to sure on a few things about the car but I was wondering how to tell if it has central locking to try get a fob sorted if it does have it (I'm hoping it was just lost while off the road). It does have a weird fob/key immobiliser key (has 3 electrical contacts) thing I dont use if that helps.

Also where is the best place to sorce a stock turbo release valve as it has a BOV and I understand it needs a recirculting valve as its a MAF model.

Any help is great, thank you

All mk2s have central locking as far as I'm aware. Most did not come with remote central locking though, including your rev2. Any remote central locking will be an aftermarket addition - most likely with an alarm system.

The touch key immobiliser and lack of a fob suggests to me that you do not have any aftermarket remote central locking either.

Thank you, I was hoping for remote central locking but I guess it was wishful thinking xD. Ill look at aftermarket alarms if Im really bothered but might just use some graphite to lube up the locks instead

My MR2 only activates the central locking with the aftermarket Clifford key fob - so I think the alarm was either installed poorly or the aftermarket alarm install disables central locking from the original key by default. :confused1:

Not sure when remote central locking was introduced but it's definitely OEM on T2 (UK Rev 5).
Both sets of keys have this fob.

Can't remember whether the alarm/immobiliser system is the TVSS IIb or IIIb.

Having owned three rev5s (and stolen your keys once!) I'm well aware of this, hence the word "most". I'm not sure if it came in with rev4s or rev5s, but it certainly is not built into rev2s :th:
