Tyre size
Hello all,
I have a 1992 rev 2 which has 215 40 17 front and 235 40 17 tyres on the back. The backs need replacing and my mechanic has suggested putting winter tyres on and running all year round. Couple of questions, can I run winter tyres all year round? Secondly, I cannot get the 235 40 17 in winter tyres anyway so what are the alternatives? Can I run 225 45 17 or 215 45 17, all tyre places seem to say different things! For example speedometer could be affected or won’t be enough clearance in wheel archers. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Tyre size
if it helps, i run 215/40r17 front and 245/40r17 on the rear, Yes you can run winter tyres all round but i would advice having all 4 as winter tyres because they grip differently.
hope this helps

Re: Tyre size
depends on rim width what tyres you can fit.
few examples
7j 235 /40/17 minimum wheel witdh 7.7"
I like quite a few have run this ssize on 7Js but they are actually oversized for 7" (225 max)
your 245/40/17 need minimum 8js preferably 8.5j
without know what wheels are on the car (with of rims) cant suggest tyre size.
see link for tyres sizes per wheel widths table. minimum / ideal / max

get good quality tyres and drive to the conditions. simples.
I have run Falkens and Hankooks with no issues in winter .. going to try goodyear eagles as next set (asymmetric 3s)

Re: Tyre size
OFC finger trouble Pete?
My first MR2 (turbo) had 7Js running that profile on the rear.
The 'pinched in' look was quite noticeable.
Luckily it wasn't on T1Rs with their marshmallow sidewalls!

Re: Tyre size
Jase I’d suggest checking your tyre pressures dude. The Hankooks are very good in the wet and dry weather

Re: Tyre size
similar to mine 29 front and 33 rear
we just did Wales run (early Dec), wet all day and no real issues.

Re: Tyre size
29 fronts and weather dependant 31 or 33 rear
That’s my preference
