Mk3 roof not shutting
Hi Guys,
I’ve had my 2006 Mk3 for eleven years. Last week I opened the soft top, but when I went to close it, there was resistance and after pulling harder there was a horrible grawnching noise but the roof came free. But trying to close it using the two latches was very difficult. The roof appeared to not close enough and was an inch or two away from its normal closing position. I had to use a lot of force to shut the roof completely.
Any thoughts.
Thank you.

Re: Mk3 roof not shutting
Sounds like lack of lubrication on the hood mechanism, careful application of some WD40 (or similar penetrant oil ) to the pivot points and a bit of repeated movement (open/close a few dozen times) should free it off

The other thing to check is that the press studs on the top strap havent come undone as they can get stuck in the mechanism if they are not in the right place (this is the strap that pulls the "ears" in when you put the roof down).
