Fires but won't run

Post by richard adams »

Did an engine swap rev 3 na engine into a rev 2 na car. Engine fires for 2 seconds then dies. The loom was sorted to fit the new ecu, new plugs, igniter and coil changed, dizzy changed. Checked that no wires or earth straps have been left off. New fuel pump and filter, fuel flow checked. Nothing makes any difference.
Any ideas appreciated.

I assume you found a guide for the wiring.
Just to note there are wiring changes in the engine bay fuse box and there should also be one wire that needs to come from body loom to engine loom but off the top of my head I can't remember which

Check ECU part number is correct rev3 with no immobiliser
Open up ecu, on PCB pinouts are labelled, look for igf and check it is right.

I assume you found a guide. Fuse box changes and one of the wires from body loom plug needs to move to engine loom plug

Sounds like it could be something to to with the COR (Circuit Opening Relay) If it was immobiliser related it wouldn't fire at all in my experience. You could try putting a temporary (very) link in the between +B and FP and see if it keeps running.
Black is not a colour ! .... Its the absence of colour

This is the wire that needs to move from body plug to engine plug I believe but my memory fails me, green wire iirc

Many years ago I helped a member out with this exact problem and it was igf needed moving one pin over.
On mine last year I had this issue, again it turned out to be igf but I was doing rev4 engine with rev3 ECU into rev1 car
