Re: Alternative Wheels
My local go to tyre guy reckons 14" tyres will be rarer than rocking horse effluent pretty soon, so I am 'future proofing' . From what I have read elsewhere 15" tyres might not have too long to go either. I might go with TonyleFrog's suggestion of 6.5Js and spacers on the rear, I can keep the 14s with fairly good tyres to go back to stock when/if I sell the car.

Re: Alternative Wheels
I think we will see the likes of the Toyo R888 arround for a while in 15 inch because it's used on a few old classics and race cars but yes the 14 inch tyres are dead. The 205 on the rear was wrong from the start and the move to 225 was a big improvement.

Re: Alternative Wheels
At last I have bought a set of wheels. They were were n't too far away and were a good ( for me) price. They are BWE Racing alloys, made in Italy. The shock horror is that they are all four are 7J. Before I bought them I checked with a friend of mine who is a chartered MechEng who has been involved in vehicle R&D. He reckons that the important factor in 'stagger' is the difference in dimensions between the front and rear track. Something that changing the J on its own will have less effect than changing the ET. Also that the scrub radius remains as near to original as possible.

Re: Alternative Wheels
Actually on a rev 1 the original rears were 205's so this would have been fine. I run 205's on my daily, it's not a problem.TonyleFrog wrote: ↑30/09/20 21:55Yes, you are. The stock figure is 30mm not 10! - https://www.mr2oc.co.uk/know-your2/mk2/ ... tyres.html
7j on 15's are actually ok all round as long as the offsets are correct, you'll just find that your front wheels are slightly wider than stock but can still happily run 195's.

Re: Alternative Wheels
The stock 15s were cheap and easy to get several years back over here. I have 2 sets one on the car and the second set in boxes. Mainly got them in case I damage a wheel as replacing the whole lot with something else is a nightmare. Not seen any for sale that are not on a car for a while. One set was $150 and came with near stuffed tyres the guy thought I was buying them just to do burnouts with

Re: Alternative Wheels
Tbh in UK your stock 15's (not rev 5's) are still really cheap and easy to get hold of.

OEM 14" wheels with 60 profile tyres - https://www.wheel-size.com/size/toyota/mr2/1991/
However the OP's original post was referring to 15" wheels (which are what he has since acquired) and my comment was in respect of the OEM tyre stagger thereon.

Re: Alternative Wheels
I found the best way to deal with not being sure on what wheels to fit was to buy multiple sets! I think we (me and the missus) are up to ELEVEN different sets of MR2 fitment alloys now, most of them rare JDM.

Re: Alternative Wheels
The correct term is 'competition'.
However, there are 2 of you and 1 of me. That's not fair!

Re: Alternative Wheels
I was thinking the other day that we have some lovely wheels now. All staggered sets of course!
Enkei racing RS 16s silver
Enkei racing RS 16s kermit green
Enkei racing RS 17s
Veilside Andrews Racing V 17s
Mazdaspeed MS01 17s
Work VSXX 18s
MR2 original Anni wheels 15s
Rota 5 spoke 17s
Rachel's PIAA 17s
MR2 standard wheels 15s (winter tyres)
I think we actually have 2 more sets kicking around - not to mention the 17s the V8 project is sat on.
