What happens when the steering cuts out and doesn't come back on? What could be the cause?
So the power steering was working and then stopped working? Just checking as some MR2 came without PS.

When mine stopped working it was a faulty relay.

See this link, it may be worth cleaning up the contacts first before replacing the relay.

Unless it's clogged up with dust and fluff. ;) You'd be surprised what you can find when you start stripping off stalk mechanisms. :laughing
I get fluff everywhere when I start stripping off, and I'm nearly twice as old as my car!

And don't call me stalk mechanisms..

There is a steering sensor too that could be at fault iirc. (84317-22020 I think)
+1 - Sticky relay or duff. Easy way to diagnose is to turn the ignition on/off about 20 times. No joy after that then replace relay. Not heard of a speed sensor go before (unless the clocks have been out for some reason) but logical to look at next if a new relay doesn't fix it. Maybe the pump has gone, but I would expect a light on the dash for that.

Relay has been swapped and bypassed and the problem remained.
Speed signal has never been there from the gearbox but it worked before so common sense tells me it should work now.
So what I am looking at is the steering sensor.

Thanks guys :th:

Speed sensor faults are often caused by a duff or badly installed speedo convertor/speed delimiter. If you have one fitted I'd try removing it and see if it solves the problem.

For whatever reason when I had my LSD fitted they couldn't fit a speed sensor ring so I don't actually have a speed sensor in the gearbox. I run a GPS Speedometer instead.

Theres also a steering ECU ,that might have gone ?

Yeah, PS ECU is what you can read codes from for diagnosis. IIRC a dead one will flag the light on the dash though from the main ECU.
