Sorry I'm not with you this year and as I'm off grid from tomorrow in the wilds of Northumberland I'll wish you all a good time, drive safely and I hope to be there again next year.

Just read this wee article

Concerns about speeding are regularly raised by communities in the Highlands and Islands - and is also a contributing factor in many serious collisions.

With this in mind, local road policing officers will be supporting a national safety campaign next week which will raise awareness of the dangers of inappropriate speed.

The campaign - which will run from April 16-22 - will also target drivers using their mobile phones and not using their seatbelts.

Sergeant Gus Murray, of the Road Policing Unit in Dingwall, said: "Sadly we often find that speeding or inappropriate speed is a contributory factor in many serious and fatal road traffic collisions.

"Police Scotland operates a robust policy in respect of drivers exceeding the speed limit across the country and we are no different in the north.

"This does not just apply to those breaking the limit - anyone who drives with excessive speed for the conditions is also potentially putting themselves and other road users. The speed limit is not a target.

"All drivers and riders must be aware that speed limits vary according to the road and type of vehicle they are driving and they have a responsibility to ensure that they are well aware of these matters.

"Drivers and riders must comply with the speed limits on the roads and drive at an appropriate speed for road, weather and traffic conditions."

Sergeant Murray added: "At the present time the minimum penalty speeding would incur is Β£100 and an endorsement of three points on the driving licence by means of a conditional offer fixed penalty notice.

"In addition the holders of vocational licences including Large Goods vehicles and Passenger Carrying Vehicles (such as buses) may also be reported to the Traffic Commissioner who can impose additional sanctions which can include restriction on driving these vehicles with obvious consequences for employment and livelihood. "

Do you know the speed limit for your vehicle in every situation? Check our attached table for more information.
