The MK1 rods are different to thatand are adjustable, however it still sounds to me like the motor arm is in the wrong position, I seem to remember it's secured by a nut onto the motor shaft which is splined, would only have to be a spline or so out to cause the exact symptoms you have described.

yeah, was having a chat with someone else who had suffered the same issue. they did manage to remove the arm (though they said it was on firmly) and move it round on the splines. It is prob only 1 spline out, think 2 would be too far. Will have to address it over the weekend, think that motor is coming out :D

The splines are tapered (like a wiper arm) so you need to release it from the taper, usually levering it from 2 sides similtaneously will get it.

Unless someone has previously removed the arm and refitted it incorrectly why would it be out of kilter? Just asking as I got the impression the fault is a recent development. Could the symptoms you are experiencing be an issue with the internal drive within the motor casing?

No idea why it would ever have been off Tony. This is a new car to me in the last week so not sure of the history, the car came with the issue.
Got a new daily driver while the project car is in the workshop

So been messing with this for an hour or 2. Tried to adjust the arm position with the plug off but with power restored it goes back to it's old position.

Tried to reposition the arm on the splines but despite marking the position with tippex, managed to spend quite some time trying to get it anywhere near the correct angle. The end result was about the same as before. The spindle seems to change position slightly each time it's rotated.

For now I've pulled the fuse again and adjusted by hand. Looks like replacement motor time for the right hand light.

From your description it sounds like the limit switch is acting up, I'd say your correct, it's motor replacement time
