So, with a pretty good first response, I am now making this official :th: I have been talking with the organisers of Silverstone Race Circuit to come up with a fantastic event to kick off the East Mids area.

Date - Sunday 21st July
Time - Varies (See Below)
Venue - Silverstone Race Circuit

So, the plan for the day. I have reserved 5 Novice and 5 Intermediate places on Silverstone Race Circuit's Track Day Tester session on the Silverstone National Circuit. This comprises of 30 minutes on the track with a maximum of 14 other cars.

The cost is £39 for the session and that gives you tuition and 30 minutes on the circuit.

09:00hrs – Intermediate session - Intermediate Drivers – 5 spaces currently

Aimed at drivers who have taken part in a number of Track Days, whether at Silverstone or other circuits. Road cars only.

09:45 hrs – Novice session - Novice Drivers – 10 spaces currently

For drivers who have never participated in an own car track day, at any circuit in the United Kingdom. Or have taken part in just 1 previous Silverstone Track Day Taster.

Please note we do require all drivers to be attend a full safety briefing at least 60 minutes before their track time commences.

So, in effect, we need to be at the circuit by 7.45am for the first safety briefing.

Payment for this is up front and I have only been able to reserve these spots until Friday next week (21/06/13). If you want to come along for this, then I will pm you details of where to pay to ensure I have all the monies before I have to pay for the booking next Friday.

Included in this is a chance for us to take photographs on the circuit including in the pit lane :th:

Once finished there, I have arranged for us all to have access to Turweston Aerodrome (a private airfield) up the road from the circuit for another photo session :th:

Lastly, we'll all head off for a hearty pub lunch somewhere.

All in all, I think this will be a fantastic day out and give you not only a chance to drive on the Silverstone circuit in anger, but also learn a lot about how your car drives and handles hopefully making us better drivers :th:

Yes, I'm in... not sure which session I should be in though

I'm tempted to say I'll go in for the novice session cos it's more fun to be a fast thing in a slow session than a slow thing in a fast session. Also, more time in bed :th:

Just cos you don't want to be shown up by an inferior driver in superior machinery ;)

Nice one Dave :th:

As I say, the only real limiting factor is how quick I have to pay for it

Shinny, you've got me bud ;)

Just as an update, there are ACTUALLY 10 places available on each. I have only reserved 5 on each to play it safe. The maximum we can book is 10 though :th:

Thought so ;)

I was just checking the T&Cs and it specifies tyres "should" have 4mm tread depth, which my rear R888s probably don't despite still being street legal. Do you know if the cars will have to go through some form of scrutineering besides the noise check?

Edit: I think I'm being paranoid. I think what I've picked up on is on a page of recommendations rather than a strict set of rules :th:

You know, I don't actually know Bud - I'll check with them tomorrow if you like. It does imply that there is no scrutineering as such as there are noise meters around the circuit to measure levels though...

I'll double check if you like but that may flag up that some of us might be a little unsure about our cars

That's a fair point. TBH, I'm not unsure about my car and I'll be presenting tyres that would have MASSES of grip even when below the legal tread depth limit. Just don't want to encounter a jobsworth with a tread depth gauge. That said, my experience with track time at JapFest suggests it won't be a problem at all.

Perhaps a better question would be to get a timetable for the day and the sign-on procedure so we know what to expect on the morning. In the unlikely event that there is a scrutineering section then it will show up in the schedule ;)
